Celebrating 2020 Volunteer of the Year: Michael Loscheider
The Superior Hiking Trail Association is pleased to recognize Michael Loscheider as our 2020 Volunteer of the Year!

Michael has served the SHTA as a Volunteer Crew Leader for the past few years, attending trainings and working with SHTA staff to plan and implement projects to improve the Trail. If you've had the opportunity to work with him, you know his kindness, work ethic, and humor -- not to mention his trail smarts -- are all huge assets to the SHT and our community. While his planned project was put on hold in 2020 due to the pandemic, he stayed busy at home by creating new, hand-routed signs in the classic SHT style to replace broken or missing signs (and add a few new ones). A huge thanks to Michael for all of his contributions to the Trail!

P.S. If you're interested in learning more about volunteer projects in 2021, tune in to our upcoming free webinar on May 4 at 7pm.
MN ENRTF 101: Critical Funds for the SHT and More
The Superior Hiking Trail has a long history and bright future with Minnesota’s Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF) and the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR).

Many of the first miles of the Trail were built with funding provided by the LCCMR, and the ENRTF has been a source of major grant funding since 2018 to help launch the SHTA’s Trail Renewal Program and address problem areas on the Trail. Over $1 million worth of project funding for the SHT is currently recommended and awaiting appropriation by the state's legislature or being considered for future funding.

Given the importance of the trust fund and the commission to the SHT — and many other places and projects across Minnesota — it’s worth learning more about how this funding source works. Read more about the ENRTF and the SHT
Your Support Puts Spring Back into the SHT
GiveMN is hosting the SpringForwardMN campaign to support nonprofits across the state of Minnesota May 1-11.
Like you, we're busy gearing up for trail season. But instead of planning long hikes and weekend backpacking trips, we're focused on maintenance and improvement projects across all 300 miles of the SHT.

Now is a perfect time to pitch in to power our efforts in the coming months, and our friends at GiveMN are helping to support nonprofits like the SHTA with a statewide giving campaign called SpringForwardMN. From May 1-11, your gift of any size made to the Association here will be entered into a drawing for daily bonus grants of $1,000 and regional grants of $250. This is a simple, fun way to make the most of your support for the SHTA and your favorite Minnesota causes.

Are you interested in other ways to give back to the Trail? Visit our Ways to Give page to see a few other simple options to show your love for the SHT.
