Latest news from Savanna Therapies
Here we are at the end of February already. It’s been a difficult week one way or another. My thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, and I am still in shock that something like this can happen in the 21st Century. It’s heart-breaking and I feel quite helpless about it.
This week we heard all covid restrictions in England were lifting as we ‘learn to live with Covid’. While I welcome this in many ways (as I am so over it!), I know for some this will be quite a scary concept. We all need to go at our own pace. How you feel will be different to someone else. If there is something we have learnt in the past two years, it's that we need to be kind, not only to others, but to ourselves too. It’s been a long hard two years. I will continue to have a number of Covid measures in place.
I’m pleased to see that Spring is on its way after last week’s storms. On Friday, in between clients, I walked to my local country park. It was great to get outside, soak up some vitamin D and enjoy the flowers that are starting to bloom.
Let's talk about Kiwi fruit
A few weeks ago I was out walking and listening to Dr Chatterjee’s podcast. He was talking to Dr William Li, a medical doctor and author of best-selling book ‘Eat to Beat Disease: the body’s five defence systems and the foods that could save your life’. I was fascinated with the conversation, and in particular about Kiwis! Dr Li said that eating one kiwi a day can repair your damaged DNA by 60%.
Kiwis are packed with loads of vitamins and minerals. They are exceptionally high in vitamin C which is essential for immune health. As well as being an excellent way to boost your consumption of vitamin C, kiwi fruit also has many other antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. Kiwis may also benefit your heart and digestive system.
Reflexology Foot Map
The theory of reflexology is that all the systems and organs of the whole body are mirrored or reflected in smaller peripheral areas, for example the feet, hands, ears and face.
Why not have a look at the Association of Reflexologists foot map to find out more?
As a reflexologist I apply gentle pressure to these points on the hands and feet. Reflexology can help relaxation, reduce stress and stimulate the body’s own healing process. I am aiming to bring back any affected areas into balance and therefore aiding the body to work as well as it can.
Self-care - not selfish, its crucial right now
The pandemic has completely changed the way we live. Taking care of our overall wellbeing is vital as we deal with all that life throws at us. I think we should all take on board advice from the Dalai Lama ...'if you feel "burnout" settling in, if you feel demoralised and exhausted, it is best, for the sake of everyone, to withdraw and restore yourself'. Great advice!
So next time you think 'I don't have time for myself', Repeat this.. Self-care is not selfish. Life is busy but you need to find the time to take proper care of yourself. Don't put it on the backburner. Make next Sunday, Self-Care Sunday!
