Growing resiliency muscles, developing conflict resolution skills, maintaining healthy relationships, loving others when it's hard...these have all been CG outcomes that have been put to the test this year.
I (Terra) just ran into a CG leader in the parking lot of a local coffee shop. After an air hug, she began to tell me how hard it was to pull off her recent CG retreat with the complexity of everyone's needs (that is even common outside of 2020 conditions). With the variety of concerns around Covid19, considering there is a huge spectrum based on our stories and where we live, fears of offending, and the on-going changes from month to month, leading CG groups has become extra challenging.
BUT IT'S WORTH IT AND IT'S NOT BY CHANCE YOU WERE CALLED TO THIS FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS. Our daughters need us to lean into the hard and model the way.
What I loved most about what this CG mama shared was this:
"Terra, we have had so many times when we have had to practice using our voices, working through conflict, managing our emotions. We are trying to hear one another's perspectives and not react. We are growing our muscles and though it has been so hard, it has also been so good."
Well, that sums up Courageous Girls for you. Though we all want these groups to be without any hitches, 2020 has given us a run for our money. Some groups have paused. Some groups have split into smaller groups. Some groups are taking things month by month. Wherever you land, one thing is for sure. You are practicing in real time and God is using this for His glory in and through you as you learn how to:
1) Name what you need.
2) Communicate what you need.
3) Listen to what others need.
4) Prayerfully consider solutions rooted in grace and trust.
WOW!! Though our CG curriculum addresses these things every month, how YOU are doing this with the other CG mamas during this season is teaching your daughter more than any CG lesson can. We will not be able to please everyone in our groups, but use your voice in a way that honors yourself AND considers others. This is Kingdom living. And thank goodness our God is with us every step of the way!
Rooted in Grace,
Jeff & Terra
Words of Love "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever."

Calling all CG Mamas!
Perhaps you have read Courageous: Being Daughters Rooted in Grace written by CG Co-Founder Terra Mattson. Or maybe you have been wanting to read the book, but just haven't found the right moment to do so. Well we have an exciting announcement to share with you!
On January 1st you can register for the first Courageous Book Study led by Terra herself! This virtual webinar will help us all unpack each chapter, answer our questions, and dive deeper into the heart behind this message.
This 5-week Study will begin on February 3rd. You will not want to miss this incredible study that is for any woman who longs to grow in her trust of who God says He is and who He says we are!
Stay tuned for more details!
Consider these tips as you navigate this harder season:
Use a gratitude jar and a complaining jar this season. Allow each kid to put the things they are thankful for and the things that are hard in each jar. At the end of each week, read through each with prayer, presenting your requests to the Lord.
Terra Mattson is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and trained play therapist. Enjoy this webinar she did with Ministry Speak, helping parents and children ministry leaders help their kiddos during this world pandemic. Check it out here.

CG Mamas, we are halfway through our #smallthingsmatter campaign with Because International and your generosity has been beautiful!
We are still in need of funds for over 300 pairs of shoes by November 30th. Would you consider linking arms with your CG group to purchase 1, 5, or 10 pairs of The Shoe That Grows?
SHOP FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS. When you buy any CG Swag, 20% of all proceeds will go toward our goal.
Pray about having your family contribute funds toward as many pairs of The Shoe That Grows as you feel led.
Share this campaign on social media with your friends and family with this link.
See if your employer has a matching program to double your donation.
Do you have a baker, painter, or crafter in your home? Have your talented daughter create something in line with her gifting, sell them to friends and family for Christmas gifts, and have all proceeds go to #smallthingsmattercampaign.
Cheryl Bush, grandma to two Courageous Girls, won the CG Swag basket on November 8th for her contribution to Because International. Cheryl and her daughter, Christina, both contributed to the #smallthingsmatter campaign and share their heart behind donating to this cause:
"God's heart is for the little children, in Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.' Blessings to the Courageous Girls community for desiring to provide shoes for these precious children to protect their little feet to walk in the steps God has for them." - Cheryl & Christina Bush
It is our desire to love and equip our CG community of mamas and daughters around the globe wholly and fully, which includes ensuring we are sharing stories and resources that encompass all backgrounds and abilities of our CG community.

CG Mama/Daughter Trio Spotlight: Meagan, Tessa and Merin Brown
Meagan Brown and her daughters, Merin (age 10) and Tessa (age 9), love being part of Courageous Girls in Austin, TX. Meagan has seen her relationship deepen with her daughters and loves that they have a chance to have fun with other Courageous Girls their age. They appreciate intentionally processing life below the surface, encouraging each other with practical truth.
As a family they love getting outside, hiking or going to the lake together. The word the Brown family chose for 2020 is "JOY," and while the circumstances of this year have been unexpected and challenging to say the least, Meagan is thankful that joy has truly been the predominant theme in their home!
