When we meet the disciples in Matthew 14, in the midst of a storm, they became fearful even after seeing miracle after miracle. Jesus had just fed the 5,000. Jesus immediately responds to their fear, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." And of course, Peter, who was full of a sincere desire to do mighty things for Jesus, gets out of the boat and tries to walk to Jesus across the water. "But when he (Peter) saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him (see verses 22-31).
What are you afraid of right now? In the midst of this incredible storm we are all in: a world pandemic, economic unrest, racial tension, and an election year with little to no leadership we can trust. Not to mention a struggling marriage, unconventional school, and children who need us to lead them well. What are you afraid of right now? Name it. Then look up and take Jesus' hand, who is ready to catch you. Take courage and remember who He is. Remember what He does - especially when you feel like you are drowning. Take courage!
Because of Grace,
Jeff & Terra
Words of Love "I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit"- Romans 15:13

Did you know that hope is more contagious than any other contagion? Hope. It is such a small word, but it carries so much meaning and depth within the framework of our faith. In Hebrews 11:1 "Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see." Hope can be reminding our children (and ourselves) that God has us in His Hand and will never leave us. No matter how messy or hard a situation, God is bigger. We are given Hope when we remember that "His mercies are new every morning." (Lamentations 3:23)
In a season of tangible and perpetual unknowns, take time as a family to write down what you do KNOW about God, yourselves, and your hope. Write them on a board and put them near the dinner table. Take time to write them in a journal and share them out loud. Our children need to hear what we are hopeful for even in the midst of all the hard. Affirm who they are, affirm who God is, and affirm who you are, despite our circumstances right now.

Each month we will feature a mom/daughter duo from around the globe to share how they are experiencing God’s hope.
From Texas USA, Lorna Borger and her daughter Camille, a bright, compassionate, creative 4th grader who loves family dance parties, drawing and singing, have been involved with Courageous Girls for the past two years. Lorna shares how she is experiencing God’s hope during this season:
“I had a season a couple of years ago during which I was really struggling with insomnia. I would go day after day with only an hour or two of sleep, and I was completely and utterly exhausted. One night, as I was lying in bed at around 3am desperately praying for sleep, I had a profound experience of peace washing over me, and 2 Corinthians 12:9 came into my head as clearly as if someone was reading it to me:
‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’
It was during that same season that my daughter and I were memorizing the fruits of the spirit with our Courageous Girls group. On a daily, hourly, sometimes minute-by-minute basis, I was reminding myself that I may be tired and cranky and discouraged, but that in my weakness, God will provide love, joy, peace, patience, kindness… everything I need to be the mom and wife I so desire to be.
In this season of uncertainty with so many balls to juggle and so many people in my space ALL THE TIME, it seems one of the lessons the Lord is teaching me is to lean into His grace and find hope in the fact that I may not be sufficient for the demands and uncertainty of this season, but that it is when I am weak, that He is most strong.”
