Hi FlexFam, we hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday weekend! Neither of us are big on the commercial holidays, but we are both very much into the true meaning of the holiday season. Getting to spend time with friends, family, and focusing on what we have to be grateful for is what makes the holiday season special, and we are definitely beyond grateful that you choose to spend time with us and make this community as special as it is. As we move into December, we have a few things planned in the studio as well as modified holiday hours around Christmas and New Year's Day, so please read on to find out all the deets!
Root Cause Medical Clinic presents "The Gift of Self Care"
Join us for a 30-minute talk presented by Dr. Vikki Petersen, DC, CCN, an internationally published author, public speaker, and founder of Root Cause Medical Clinic in Saratoga.

"The Gift of Self Care" will address:
• How to enhance the function of the gland responsible for anti-aging
• How you can have increased energy & vitality
• How to prevent degenerative diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and arthritis
• How to help your body repair itself and reverse the aging process
All attendees will receive little gift bags with product samples that support wellness AND be entered into a raffle for the larger gift basket full of wellness products on display at the front desk! No cost to attend.

FlexFam Wine and Paint Night with Apeksha!
You asked, we listened! We are happy to announce our first paint night led by own our talented FlexFam, Apeksha Chatriki. It will be Sunday, December 8th from 6:30-8:30PM. Event is $50 to attend, and includes all supplies including paints and canvas, instruction by Apeksha, light refreshments, and a glass of wine. It's not exclusively members, so if you have a friend who wants to join, send them the signup link or drop us a note!

Jewelry Pop-Up by Origami Owl
We'll be hosting Origami Owl for a studio pop-up on Tuesday, December 17th, during our afternoon/evening hours. This woman-owned jewelry company was started when the owner was 14 years old and her parents told her she had to earn money to buy her own car. She came up with an idea for charm-filled lockets and the business took off with help from her parents. Now, she sells the original Living Lockets, as well as secret jewelry surprise candles and other accessories perfect for holiday gift giving! You may check out her wares in advance here.
Christmas Party Dance Fusion with Maria
Maria is so excited to teach you a few new moves during this special 60-minute Christmas Party themed dance fusion class! This will be at her regular Thursday 6pm time on December 19th. Sign up now or risk some serious FOMO!
Yes! With Bells On!
On January 18th at 3PM Flex will be hosting a CPR/AED/First Aid training taught by RN Angie Scott. She will lead us through the hands-on assessment portion of the CPR/First Aid/AED certification requirement. This is a great deal for anyone who is interested in certifying or re-certifying for these life-saving skills. Price of attendance includes online access to a digital learning component to the certification which must be reviewed PRIOR to the workshop. Registration closes early for this one: all attendees must be registered before December 23rd to allow enough time for everyone to complete the online portion of the training before 1/18. This certification is at a considerable savings to others that are also offered with a live hands-on portion, so if you need to renew within the next few months or have been thinking about getting certified, be sure to sign up as soon as possible!

It's been about a year since we last had these in, and they flew off the shelves! Don't miss this opportunity to grab one of the softest, coziest sweatshirts you will ever own. We're not sure how it's possible, but they keep getting softer and softer the longer you have them! We also stocked an extremely limited number of leggings and sweats, so try a pair on the next time you're in. Remember, VIPs get a 10% discount on merch and Silver members get 5% off.

The winter holidays are rapidly approaching and the studio will be adopting a modified holiday schedule during the weeks of 12/22-1/4. Please, please, please double check (triple check?) the schedule to make sure that the class you intend to pop into is happening. Pro tip: with fewer classes during the holiday weeks, they will fill faster. We recommend signing up in advance to secure your spot!
Until further notice, you won't find the 7AM classes on our schedule. We are open to schedule suggestions, so if your heart is breaking over the 7AM time slot, please send Helen an e-mail.

Staffing News & Updates
We are so sad that just as soon as we got her back from maternity, she is leaving us! Nathalie has accepted a full-time position elsewhere, and her last day at Flex was officially November 30th. We will miss you, Nat, and are grateful for all the time you have spent making the space between these teal walls brighter and friendlier, both before and after baby. Good luck on all your future endeavors! #flexfamforever
For the second half of December and first half of January, you'll see Nicole behind the desk on Friday mornings and subbing as needed. She is instant FlexFam, as she's Briana's sister! An avid fitness enthusiast herself, please say hi and introduce yourself while she's here on break from school. 
Now that the dust has settled from a successful and (mostly!) smooth transition to studio ownership, our Oakland-based Mani will be around less in person. She's still very much involved in all things Flex, just from a little farther away. You'll still see her around for classes and events, and we hope you'll drop her an e-mail whenever you want to say hi!

Flex member Kirsten McKay will be in Branham High School's Faculty play "Check Please" by Jonathan Rand, a half hour of comedy silliness involving the worst blind date of all time.
When: Thursday, 12/12 and Friday, 12/13 at 7PM
Where: Performing Arts Center at Branham High School, 1570 Branham Lane
Cost: $7 for adults, $4 seniors/children under 12
Proceeds benefit the BHS drama program.

Recipe Recap ~ Banana Bread
So. Many. Holiday. Treats! Why not make a bit of these seasonal indulgences stealth-healthy? We promise, no one will be able to tell. This banana bread is sweet, moist, and soooo good, all without grain, dairy, or added sugar! Give it a try, and let us know how it goes. 💚
1. Mix all dry ingredients together in a bowl and set aside. Pre-heat oven to 350.
2. Line a loaf pan with parchment paper (or lightly grease) & set aside.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs & blend with mashed bananas. Mix in the oil, then vanilla extract.
4. Slowly add the wet mixture into the dry, stirring as you go. No need to over-mix, just combine everything to the point of no dry clumps. If you opt to add nuts or chocolate chips, stir these in now.
5. Pour your batter into your lined loaf pan, and bake at 350 for 50-60 minutes. You'll know it's done when the crust is golden brown and the interior is about 190-200 degrees.
- 1.25 cups almond flour
- .5 cup tapioca flour
- .5 cup oat flour
- .25 tsp salt
- 1.5 tsp cinnamon
- .25 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- .5 tsp baking powder
- 4 eggs (room temp)
- 3 large over-ripe mashed bananas
- .25 cup grapeseed oil (or melted coconut oil)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract

Studio Reminders and Tips

 If you see some new FlexFam at the studio, say hi! For our regulars, please go out of your way to introduce yourself to any new faces in class. We've all been the new kid in class and Flex is founded on the idea of tight-knit community. We can't be that if you don't know who you're standing by! A few reminders for navigating the studio...
  • Shoes: to help keep our mats and studio clean, please only wear non-marking soles to classes requiring shoes, preferably a pair you keep as studio shoes (that you don't wear outside). As the rainy weather begins in earnest, switching out your shoes for class will also keep the slippery floors down to a minimum.
  • Late arrivals: if you arrive more than 5 minutes late to class, we'll waive your late cancel fee & happily sign you up for the next available class, but we won't put you at risk for injury by missing the warm-up. We're strict about this because we love you!
  • Parking: you are more than welcome to park in any available street parking on the front side of the building, the back parking lot, or the garage parking at the opposite end of the complex. Please be considerate of our neighbors across Rincon avenue and skip the parking lot behind the coffee house; that one is just for their patrons.
