Dear <<First Name>>,
It’s been over a month since I was elected as your councillor and here is an update of what I’ve been up to.
In the town hall we had the council’s AGM. I am pleased to be on the Audit and Overview & Scrutiny Committee and am looking forward to digging into the cogs of the council machine to make sure it is working for residents.
I have met the following local stakeholders to begin establishing a constructive relationship
- CEO of Tower Hamlets Homes (we discussed the recladding of Brewster and Malting Houses, resident communication issues and more)
- Chair of Governors at Cyril Jackson Primary School
- Limehouse Mosque committee (we met with the Mayor and officers to discuss plans for a new site)
- Managers of Limehouse Youth Centre
- Practise manager and one of the partners at the local GPs on Gill St
Additionally I met with the Mayor, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, council officers, the police, Chair of the SNT and Chair of the LCF to discuss crime and anti-social behaviour in the ward. This was a follow up meeting to mark 6 months from the spate of muggings last winter.
The good news is that crime and ASB are down this year due, I think, to the excellent partnership work across the community, the focus the police have given to the area and initiatives like the PSPO.
The trick now is to ensure that enforcement is effective by reporting ASB through the right channels and getting the resources to the right places. Local services like the youth club should also be reaching out too- and this is a long term priority of mine.
You can download the ward crime and ASB stats from the first half of this year by clicking here.
Lastly, several development issues have arisen in the last few months. A new application for 82 West India Dock Road has been submitted. I have significant concerns about height and density. You can sign the petition against it by clicking here.
I have also been working with residents on objections to developments on Albert Mews and Limehouse Basin.
Lastly, LimeFEST is on Sunday 1st July in Ropemakers Fields from 12noon-5pm. It is a free annual festival of fun, games and entertainment for the entire family. Proudly organised by the Limehouse Community Forum, more information can be found by clicking here.
As ever, please get in touch if you have any issues you would like to discuss.
