Hello <<First Name>>

This week has been quite interesting and as always plenty going on to keep me busy.

The issue of the Deepcut 50 is still unresolved and the difficulties the poor families affected are facing, as a result, is heartbreaking. If things are not already awful enough for them, the electricity went down in a large number of the properties in the middle of the cold snap for about 2 days and currently, they only have a generator providing power. Many of them lost a large amount of food from their freezers. They have been told there is no hope of compensation from the MOD, which I am looking into.

I have also been in close contact with our MP Michael Gove who is in the process of getting a meeting organised between the relevant parties in an attempt to find some form of resolution.

Of course, I am in regular contact with all the affected families and there are a number of people from the community offering support which is great.

Responsible drone ownership

Recently, I have had numerous reports of concerns around people flying drones in the community.

Drones are a lot of fun but they are also very dangerous when not operated responsibly and can be a major invasion of peoples privacy.

There are strict laws around drone flight which I will not go into here. It is every drone owners responsibility to be fully up to speed on the regulations.

Flying a drone over peoples properties and over their gardens and recording footage is not only creepy but it is against the law.

If you have any concerns about drones in flight above your property, please call the police on 101.

Loman Road Play Area Update

There is a huge amount of excitement about the new Loman Road Play area in Mytchett.

I have had lots of messages from residents chomping at the bit about the news of when it will be ready for Mytchett Children to enjoy.

I have been informed by Council officers that they anticipate that Contractors will remove the protective fencing around the play area today so should be ready for the community to use by late this afternoon. This is of course subject to no unforeseen issues arising.

Please note however that the contractor is going to return next week to carry out the graphic markings on the newly laid tarmac but has advised it will be necessary to fence off the individual areas whilst working but hopes they should not need to close the playground again.

I have been campaigning for the refurbishment of this play area since about 2015 so to be only a matter of hours away from its opening is equally exciting for me. I am a little bit gutted that due to COVID restrictions, it would not be appropriate for me to visit the play area. As soon as it is allowed I will be over like a shot.

Thank you to the whole community for your patience but not long to wait now.

Cabinet Live Q&A

Earlier this week, I facilitated and moderated a Facebook Live Q&A with the County Council Cabinet. They took a large number of questions on issues that impact residents lives.

You can watch the recording of the Q&A here.

Thoughtless parking

This has to be one of the worst recent examples I have seen of thoughtless anti-social parking across the County division I represent.

I honestly do not think the driver purposefully went out of his/her way to cause, at best serious inconvenience or at worse serious harm by parking in this way but forcing a blind, wheelchair/mobility scooter user or parent with a pushchair from behind a vehicle into a busy road is incredibly thoughtless.

Following the recent Government consultation on Parking on Pavements, I am hoping that soon, the government will give local authorities the powers they need to address this major local problem.

Eye on your kids

It is impossible to know what our kids are up to all of the time and every parent's worse nightmare if they are ever doing anything to put their lives in danger.

All we can do is warn them of the dangers.

This image was sent to me from a concerned resident who captured on her smartphone what these kids were up to. Absolutely frightening.

Hopefully, the cold snap is over but please do warn your young people about the dangers.

Hero Neighbour

I had a huge response to the email and Facebook post about our have a go local hero who tackled the thief who broke into his car. You can read about that here.

A small number of people did not like the word I used to describe the perpetrator. I certainly did not mean to offend anyone with that so I do apologise if you found my language a little graphic for your taste.

Non the less a great result.

Unfortunately, I can't go into any detail as to the current situation in respect of proceedings against the person involved except to say it is now in the hands of the courts.

Mindenhurst FAQ's

The developers of Mindenhurst, Deepcut have put together a web page that answers a lot of frequently asked questions residents have in respect of the development.

You can visit the page here.
As always I want to hear from you if you have anything you would like to discuss with me of a local nature.

Best wishes
