5th December 2019

From the Principal

Linda Marshall's funeral on Saturday was a very fitting tribute. Thank you to our tamariki/students who attended in singing a waiata and performing a haka on behalf of West Eyreton School. Thank you to the West Eyreton Community and friends who came today to attend the memorial assembly held in memory of Linda. We have had a number of kind messages and numerous offers of support since Linda's passing - this is very much appreciated by the team. The leadership team are busy organising a fun day on Monday the 16th of December 11am-2pm (you are all welcome to come too) with lots of super cool activities. We are currently confirming finer details and will let you know the programme next week. This will be held in memory of Linda.

Congratulations to Mika T, James M, Zac C & Finehika U who represented West Eyreton School at the Canterbury Athletics championships yesterday. You all did a superb job!

It is great to have our school pool open and super cool for our students to be receiving lessons from Wai swim instructors (both at West Eyreton School and the Oxford Community pool).

Keys can be purchased for pool use over the summer season (after school hours) from the school office for $100 each.

Lots of fun had at the school disco on Friday last week - thank you FOTS (as always) for organising this. I thought it was neat that we had some of our senior students play a few songs with their band at both the junior and senior school discos.

We want to hear from you! If you haven't attended one of the face to face community consultation meetings we encourage you to fill in a survey. Please either click on this survey link or type in the URL All responses (with details provided) will go into the draw to win a pool key for the summer (valued at $100)! This information (together with responses received from other parents, students, staff and the Bot) will help to shape the strategic direction of the school for 2020 and beyond. Survey responses need to be in by 11th December 9am - thank you.

We have recently been notified that Kids base will be finishing up at West Eyreton at the end of this year. They have offered an alternate service for students to be picked up after school from West Eyreton School (from next year) to be transported to Swannanoa where they can be collected there. In the meantime we would like to consult with you about your thoughts and are offering you the opportunity to touch base with us about before/after school arrangements. Are you satisfied with this option or do you have any alternate ideas/proposals to an alternate solution? Please send the school office or me an email. Alternatively you can come and touch base with me if you have any thoughts/ideas/proposals.
Have a great weekend!

Ngā mihi nui,
Hayden van Lent

Volunteers Needed for Oxman on
Sunday 15 December

Thank you so much to all the people who are volunteering for the Oxman Multisport Event. We do require a LOT of helpers to make the day happen. So if you do have spare time on this day then please get in touch. We have several shift options.

We require approx 30 people to act as marshals plus others to help with our food tent. (Senior Students are eligible when accompanied by an adult)

BAKING FOR FOOD STALL for Oxman - we are going to be having baking on our stall - we invite donations of baked goods (muffins, slices, cakes, biscuits). If you wish to help out by baking please message us to advise so we can liaise with you as to where to drop off etc.

FOOD PREP Days for Oxman - we are going to be organising some times to do food preparation for our food stall (make sandwiches etc). If you are keen to help please message us with your details so we can get in touch with you about this.

If you can help out in anyway please get in touch with us via Darryn Watson 027 537 4368 or emailng or message our Facebook page 'West Eyreton FOTS'.
Lunch Online

We hope your children enjoyed their Sushi Lunch today.

We have one final surprise - we are going to be having Pita Pit as an option for students and families to order as part of the schools Fun Day on Monday 16 December.

So please jump onto to place your orders anytime from now until 8am on Monday 16 December.

For families whom are ordering - please place your order against one of your students names - this way we can give out to the whole family at once.
Christmas Disco

Thank you to all who attended our Christmas Disco on Friday Night. It was so pleasing to see so many attend and dress up for the occasion.
Thank you to all who have supported and offered help throughout this year with our Discos - we really appreciate it.
2020 will bring plenty more opportunities for you to show us your dance moves and finish dancing off the Christmas Pudding.
Coast 2 Coast - Saturday 8 February 2020 at the Waimak Gorge Bridge

We are collating names now to help out at the Coast 2 Coast Multisport Event. It is a great fun day out and everyone who has done it in the past can advise you about the team work and companionship gained from this great event. It truely is a real showcase of some of the top Multisport Athletes in both NZ and the World....also you may get a sneeky peak at Mr Richie McCaw if he does the event again next year.

Marshals for giving directions and Strong People for pulling kayakers out of the river are required
There is also an overnight option for Friday 7 February for overseeing the kayaks (a vehicle that can haul a trailer is a bonus as we need to transport kayaks)
Adults only can marshal at this event

If you can help out at all please get in touch by emailing or message our Facebook Page 'West Eyreton FOTS'
