WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

17th October 2019

From the Principal

It's super cool to see the students back after the holidays refreshed and ready for our final term of learning for 2019. I hope you all enjoyed the school holiday break with your families/whanau! A reminder that there is a Teacher Only Day Monday the 4th November (all teachers from schools in the Puketeraki Kāhui Ako/Col will be attending professional development). Our last day for the term is Tuesday 17 December.

We have a busy week next week with Pet Day Monday (PP Tuesday) then Assembly followed by the Senior Athletics on Wednesday. I have heard so many cool things about Pet Days at West Eyreton School in the past and am looking forward to my first experience here on Monday! Thank you in advance to everyone involved (Staff, Parents, families/whanau, FoTs, and students) for the work involved! Please could you ensure your child(ren) brings their sunhats, drink bottles and apply sunblock - thank you.

The Board of Trustees would like to hear from you - please save the date(s)! We are offering three opportunities (two evening and one day session) for you to listen in person at one of the sessions in regards to where our school is at currently and what you would like to keep/change/create for the future. These opportunities are for us to listen to your ideas. Information gathered from our School Community will be used in the future to set our strategic direction and explore ideas further. If you are unable to attend any of the three sessions below we will be sending out questions via a survey monkey (and will also seek feedback about the school reports for 2020 and beyond at the same time).

School consultation opportunities at the West Eyreton School Hall:
  • Monday November 18th - 7pm
  • Friday November 22nd - 9am
  • Monday November 25th - 7pm
Have a great weekend.

Ngā mihi nui,
Hayden van Lent
Principal

Junior Athletics 2019

Wednesday 6th November

10:30am - 2:00pm

p/p 13th November

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Our Junior Athletics day will be on Wednesday 6th November in Week 4. The children will rotate around six different stations throughout the day. As the children will be outside for most of the day, please ensure they have sunscreen on, have their sunhat with them, plenty of food in their lunch box and a drink bottle with them.

We will be practicing for the first three weeks so all students know what is expected at each station. The focus for the day is participation, encouraging others and having fun. If you are able to join us for some or all of the day we would love to see you at school.

If you have any questions please come and see Ms Reed in Rōpū Ruru.

Merino School Jersey

We have an option your children to wear a Merino School Jersey as part of the Uniform.
This will only be able to be purchased through the school and we have samples for your children to try on.

So why are we introducing this option?
As you know - it gets very cold in our area so wearing Merino clothing is a much warmer option. It allows the children's skin to breath, less bulk allowing the children to learn to write without rolling up their sleeves, stretchy yet durable allowing your child to play freely. The garments don't fade or pill easily and best of all they are machine washable.

Cost: $80.00 including GST and embroidery when purchased amongst a bulk order. A $5.00 surcharge per jersey  applies for 1 off individual orders under 5 garments.

Please contact Maryann Read if you would like to try on a jersey. Email: maryann@installspecs.nz

There will be order forms at the office or you can email Maryann to receive one. All money for the orders are to be made to the school bank account and there will be no order submitted prior to garments being paid. .
