January 5, 2021
Dear Korczakians,

We greet together with you the New 2021 and wish for peace, good health and wonderful Korczak projects in the coming year.

To those of you who sent their donations, we appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity. To those of you who did not have a chance to donate to Korczak USA in 2020, please do it now to help us bring new projects to fruition.

Below is the repeat of our December 2020 message for your reading pleasure.

With best wishes,
Mariola and Joyce

Dear Korczakians in the USA,

This has been an unprecedented year for illness, political turmoil, natural disaster, and a general distrust of what we are hearing and seeing. At such a time, we can despair, or we can remember the stories of what we know to be good and true and courageous in our world. Such a story is that of Janusz Korczak. Korczak lived in a period between and during two world wars, and he experienced human devastation that is a picture of inhumanity unsurpassed to our day. Yet he carried on, caring for the children in his orphanage and in the Warsaw ghetto, speaking to authorities, encouraging parents, broadcasting on the radio, writing plays and stories that live into our times—never giving up, accompanying “his children” to the last moment.

In our time, we have extraordinary challenges, and extraordinarily creative opportunities to meet these challenges. Many have made use of technology in new ways, teaching online, presenting webinars and Zoom meetings, continuing relationships that sustain us during times of uncertainty and isolation.

The Janusz Korczak Association of the USA has continued to work and spread the story, the message, and the educational advances of Korczak, from our last in-person event at the International School in New York City,  just before the “lockdown” in March, through online talks, events and our posts on Facebook, right through to the present. In fact, we are planning to continue with many more projects through 2021.

Brian Hull is working on a movie production of Kaytek the Wizard  and Mariola Strahlberg is planning a new Children’s Rights Trail in upstate New York.

Mariola and Joyce are organizing a three-part seminar at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, in the spring of 2021 that will reach teachers, teaching students, and the university community with powerful examples of Korczak’s work with children that can translate to our children today, and of course—his most astounding biography. Now that we have two volumes of Korczak's writings in his own words translated into English, we have many more opportunities in the US to introduce academic communities to his timeless ideas. Learn more here.

Our members will continue presenting about children’s rights and about Korczak’s life and his timeless ideas.

Please consider helping us to continue this work, and to achieve our goal in this troubled time: to bring a message of hope, of ingenuity, and of true humanity to our world, especially to the children. You can make a donation on our website, www.korczakusa.com, by clicking on the DONATE button. If you prefer, you can send your check, payable to Janusz Korczak Association of the USA, to 457 Harlemville Road, Hillsdale, NY 12529.

Janusz Korczak Association of the USA is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.

We thank you in advance for your willingness to support Korczak’s ideas in the United States.

We can do it – only – when we do it TOGETHER
