Launch of COVID-19 vaccination in primary schools

From Friday 27 May 2022, the COVID-19 vaccination primary schools’ program will launch across South Australia.

The program will roll out in Approximately 40 primary schools in total.

Each week for 4 weeks, 10 different schools will provide vaccinations on Fridays and Saturdays only.
All schools will have 2 visits, 9 weeks apart to give people the opportunity to receive their second dose.

Fridays – vaccinations will be available to the school community only, including children, their siblings and parents.

Saturdays - vaccination will be open to the rest of the community to give people the opportunity to receive any of their COVID-19 vaccinations (dose 1, dose 2, dose 3, booster, winter dose).

Update: Vaccination rates for the Aboriginal population

The latest data for South Australia shows over 80% of the state’s Aboriginal population aged 12 years and older has had their first dose, and just under 75% have had their second dose.

There was a slight increase in 5 to 11 year-olds who had their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine (38%) and just under 22% have had their second dose.

If you haven’t had your COVID-19 vaccine yet and would like to ask questions and get vaccinated, clinics are still open.

Update: COVID outbreaks in communities

There are currently 595 Aboriginal South Australians with active COVID-19 infections. A total of 14,422 Aboriginal people have had COVID-19 infections since the border opened in November, 2021.

Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is one of the best ways to protect us all and COVID safe behaviours continue to be very important too.

What to do if you think you have Long COVID

It’s normal for COVID-19 symptoms to last up to four weeks after finishing isolation.
If you have ongoing or new symptoms that last for two months or more, you may have Long COVID.
The symptoms of Long COVID are different for each person. Common symptoms include:
  • fatigue
  • weakness
  • shortness of breath
  • cough
  • cognitive dysfunction
  • brain fog
  • headaches
  • joint pain
  • chest pain
  • hair loss
  • sleep and mood disturbances
You may experience Long COVID even if you had no symptoms when you had COVID-19.

If your COVID-19 symptoms continue or if you are worried you might have Long COVID, make an appointment with your doctor or healthcare worker.

They will help support you to get better or refer you to a specialist Long COVID clinic at a hospital across Adelaide for additional care.

Aboriginal population

  • 595 people have active COVID-19 infections.
  • 14,422 people have had COVID-19.*
  • 10 people have sadly passed away from COVID-19 in total.*
Whole of SA population
  • 28,388 people became infected with COVID-19 in the last week. 
  • 468,607 people have had COVID-19 in total.**
  • 409 people have sadly passed away from COVID-19 in total.**
* since the borders opened on 23 November 2021.

** since the pandemic started in South Australia in January 2020.
