The Washington PTO is very excited to announce the formation of a new committee called “All-Abilities”.
The mission of this new committee is to promote awareness, community, acceptance, and advocacy of all abilities students and parents of Washington School.
All our children are special; however, some have special needs. There are over 600 kids with IEP’s and over 200 kids with 504’s in D64. Parents of kids with various abilities want the same things for their kids as all parents want- for their kids to have friends, be included and participate in school activities.
Because the PTO is the engine for many student events we feel our organization can greatly benefit from this committee to facilitate the best way to include kids with differing abilities, raise disability awareness and embrace diversity.
Our goal is to work together to create an environment where kids learn to embrace and accept differences and grow up to be kind, compassionate and empathic human beings.
The chairperson nominated for this new committee is Lorena Fisher. Lorena along with her husband Tom have lived in Park Ridge for over 10 years and have two boys attending 2nd and 3rd grade. Both Lorena & Tom continue to be heavily involved in various committees in the school district to assist in the guidance of these needs.
If you would like to participate in the committee, be included in informational emails or just have the time to contribute ideas to share please email Lorena at firstname.lastname@example.org. The dates and times for upcoming meetings of the All-Abilities committee will be announced in future communications.
Thank you all!
