This season, give the gift of education.

Dear friends,

A young woman at Mara Girls Leadership School told us this year she wants to be "the first female engineer in the Maasai Mara," and she's now well on her way to fulfilling that dream at one of the top high schools in Nairobi. In Morocco, too, we hear from so many kids who were students in our earliest projects and are now going on to college, the first in their families to do so.

I hope you've been as moved and thrilled by our updates and stories as I have been these past 7 years. We especially love to share the stories written by young people on the ground. These may be the greatest reward.

2020 was such a challenging year, and we deeply appreciate our members and the extra contributions to the COVID-19 emergency fund. We helped feed 4000 Maasai villagers, while still completing all but one of our planned education projects for schools and communities in Morocco and the Maasai Mara.

Now, we're looking ahead to 2021 with hope and resilience. We're doubling down on literacy and environmental education with innovative new projects that will make a genuine impact today and well beyond this moment in time. Building on our strong partnerships, past successes, and your support, we can do so much more in the coming year.

Please take a look at our plans for 2021! We're developing the first public English library in rural Morocco, continuing the Solar Library project in Kenya, hosting a virtual exchange on climate change between students in the U.S. and Morocco, holding a second Writing Competition for young people, and more...

We believe there is no greater power than literacy and education and no better way to invest in positive change. Education affects everything in this life, and the benefits are amplified from one generation to the next and from one village or country to the next. And yet, all the work we do would not be possible without your help.

I hope you'll continue with us or join us as a new member of OliveSeed today. Because we are small, apply funds directly, are all volunteer, and have very low overhead, your contribution goes a long way.

Our warmest thanks, and best wishes to you for this holiday season and a hopeful new year!

Thank you to all who gave to the Mara Girls Solar Library Project! The 8th-grade girls were at school in late November and helped organized the books and lanterns. We hope to start deliveries out to the homes soon and will be back in touch with updates.
One of our projects in 2021 is bringing a much-needed library and learning resource center to the Talek Primary School, a public school in the Maasai Mara with 1100 students. I took this photo of one of their 3rd-grade classes in late 2019. Another nonprofit has just built a library building, ready for us to get to work!!
