VCUarts alumna helps shape 'Toy Story 4'

Valerie LaPointe (BFA ’03), a story supervisor for Pixar, set the stage for Buzz and Woody to return to the big screen in Toy Story 4. LaPointe has been a full-time story artist at Pixar animation studios since 2007.

Using virtual avatars in medical care

Semi Ryu, associate professor of Kinetic Imaging, was recently featured in the Richmond Times-Dispatch for her project “VoicingHan,” which employs virtual avatars to help cancer patients self-reflect and manage pain.

What it takes to be a conductor

Music education major Lida Bourhill came to VCUarts to be a conductor—but she never expected to be standing in front of the Richmond Symphony Chorus while she was still in school.

Recent graduate Fiona Penn (BFA ’19) is featured on the video series “myVCUarts,” where she talks about the archaeological inspiration behind her latest projects. Penn drew connections between the excavation of Pompeii and researching digital archives.
