FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State wide flag controversy heats up

01/20/21

for information Paul Dulchinos (401)207-2646, Luann Pezzullo (401)253-7095

In the growing controversy over the flying of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement's flag on the Barrington Town flagpole, a statewide organization has joined Barrington, RI's United Veterans Council (UVC)'s protest campaign.

The flagpole is located at the veterans' memorial. Since the BLM flag was hoisted by the town manager, Jim Cunha, in September, UVC has waged a vigorous grassroots campaign they call “Keep Politics off the Pole”, so far unsuccessful, to have it removed. Rhode Island Coalition for Israel (RICI), a statewide grassroots activist organization of Christians and Jews who support Israel and fight anti-Semitism, has weighed in on the issue on the side of UVC. Other groups are being recruited on the side of UVC and RICI. The Town Council is holding a public hearing Feb. 1 to review a proposed ordinance on the matter. Both UVC and RICI oppose the proposed ordinance and are gearing up for the public hearing.

“This isn't about whether black lives matter”, says Lt. Col. (retired) Paul Dulchinos, UVC president. “Of course they do. But BLM is a political movement. It is a partisan political flag. We have been working within channels to ask our town government to recognize that it is divisive to fly a partisan flag. If they were flying a Confederate flag the flagpole would be torn down by now.”

Luann Pezzullo, an East Bay resident and RICI founding Board member, points out, “The Black Lives Matter movement incites Jew-hatred. It promotes the blood libel that Israel is responsible for American police brutality against minorities. It pushes the lie that Israel is an apartheid state. It says that the Jewish people oppress people of color. Flying their flag is an attack on the the Jewish people.”

Dulchinos points out that the next-door Town of Warren has an acceptable flag policy, to wit: “The flag poles located in front of Town Hall and those located on any municipally owned building or property shall only fly the United States Flag, the flag of the State of Rhode Island, the POW flag (POW/MIA) and the flag of the Town of Warren”.

He explains that Barrington's proposed ordinance would allow both the Council and Town Manager the discretion to fly unauthorized flags. Dulchinos says, “We don't want the flag pole to become a political advertising tool for whatever feel good cause de jour at the whim of the Town Council or Town Manager. This only leads to potential conflict like flying the Marxist BLM flag. We can not trust our Woke Town Council to do the right thing. Also we need to avoid possible civil rights litigation in the future.”

ANTI-SEMITISM: WHAT EVERY CHRISTIAN NEEDS TO KNOW AND HOW TO STOP IT

Anti-Semitism is seeping into the United States via college campuses, politics, and the internet. It is evident in both the far-left and far-right political movements that hatred towards Jews is on the rise. The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem has put together a new resource to help the Christian community better understand anti-Semitism and how to stop it.

The booklet is available to download for free and we encourage everyone to get themselves a copy and share it with people in their network.
