What is a "Public Hearing" in the Woke Republic of Barrington?

1. Town Council members decide among themselves how they're going to vote

2. Town Council holds a "public hearing"

3. Town Council then votes as previously agreed
Immediately after fulfilling the legal requirement for a public hearing, on Feb 1 the Council adopted an ordinance they'd previously prepared giving themselves the unrestricted right to fly flags like the BLM flag. Plus the BLM flag will continue to fly until March 3.

The many opponents of that ordinance (mostly Barrington residents unaffiliated with RICI) advocated for adopting Warren, RI's restrictive flag policy instead. They argued that flying the BLM flag desecrates the Veterans memorial, glorifies a movement which has anti-Semitic elements within its leadership and membership, is divisive. and would open the town to legal challenges. Ultimately it wastes the time of the Council which has more pressing issues to deal with.

The number of speakers for and against the ordinance were about equal. One speaker in favor of the ordinance -  a member of the Rabbinic Cabinet of the anti-Israel J Street organization- used his time to direct false or misleading accusations against RICI. (See FACT-CHECK report here.)

The efforts by at least three organizations -- Barrington United Veterans Council, RI Coalition for Israel, and RI Center for Freedom and Prosperity -- generated well over 1500 emails to the five Town Council members. (RICI has learned that city and town council members in RI see 10 emails or less on issues.)

Apparently, with this virtue-signaling decision the Woke Town Council of Barrington was willing to alienate half the town. You can selectively listen to the testimony against the ordinance HERE.

Finally, HERE is the Barrington Times' article on the campaign leading up to the Feb 1 meeting. HERE is the Times' report on the meeting itself.

TikTok: We need to do better and stop speaking over Jewish voices

Anti-Semitism is seeping into the United States via college campuses, politics, and the internet. It is evident in both the far-left and far-right political movements that hatred towards Jews is on the rise. The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem has put together a new resource to help the Christian community better understand anti-Semitism and how to stop it.

The booklet is available to download for free and we encourage everyone to get themselves a copy and share it with people in their network.
