RICI joins 100+ strong world-wide NGO coalition calling for hate speech reform on Facebook

On Friday August 7, RICI submitted a letter to social media giant Facebook as part of a coalition of nearly 130 organizations, urging it  to adopt a clear antisemitism hate speech policy based on the widely accepted working definition of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

Online anti-Semitism has spiked in recent years. Community standards on Facebook and other social media platforms have failed to address the growing threat. Facebook urgently needs to stem the flow of hate. And that can only be done by using tools which identify all forms of antisemitism.

RICI itself reports that numerous anti-Semitic comments appeared on its Facebook page while the organization was displaying a banner reading STOP ANTI-SEMITISM in July and early August, at the iconic Big Blue Bug on Rt. 95 in Providence.

The letter follows the findings and recommendations outlined in "The New Antisemites", which documents how the global rise in anti-Semitism has been driven by social media. The report, presented by and Zachor Legal Institute last December, and endorsed by over 60 American NGOs, describes online anti-Semitism as "one of the most acute forms of anti-Semitism today."

RICI has been actively engaged in distributing copies of THE NEW ANTISEMITES to community leaders this year.

Anti-Semitism is seeping into the United States via college campuses, politics, and the internet. It is evident in both the far-left and far-right political movements that hatred towards Jews is on the rise. The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem has put together a new resource to help the Christian community better understand anti-Semitism and how to stop it.

The booklet is available to download for free and we encourage everyone to get themselves a copy and share it with people in their network.
