Our first Feast of Fiction was a huge success. Back in November, we had Jenna Blum, Crystal King and Louise Miller out to talk about their books, The Lost Family, Feast of Sorrow and The Late Bloomer's Club. But more than a normal author event, we had it at Orange Door Kitchen. Chris and Meredith from Orange Door Kitchen put together a three-course meal, with each course coming directly from or being inspired by each of the three books.

When it was their course, the authors talked not just about their book, but about their recipe, and it how it related to the book, why they chose it, etc. What's more, the authors rotated from table to table with each course so that the attendees got a chance to speak with each author in an intimate setting. It was an awesome time all the way around. Chris and Meredith are such great chefs and such great hosts. I initially got the idea when they posted - before they even opened - about how they had recreated the food from the Game of Thrones' Red Wedding. These are the kinds of fun ideas that have quickly made them a staple in our community!

Why am I telling you this? Because we're at it again! On June 20th, we are once again headed over to Orange Door Kitchen with three authors who have three of the most talked-about books of the year -- Whitney Scharer, who wrote Age of Light; Marjan Kamali, who wrote The Stationery Shop; and Grace Talusan, who wrote The Body Papers.

This is going to be a fantastic night. The last time, we did a three-course dinner. This time, Chris and Meredith have upped the ante to a four-course dinner. Here's the menu:
  1. The Body Papers // Lumpia Shanghai (Filipino egg roll) with sweet and sour dipping sauce
  2. Age of Light // Moules Mariniere with smoked paprika, tomato and feta
  3. The Stationary Shop // Persian Spiced Chicken with jeweled rice
  4. Rose Cardamom Avocado Ice Cream with cinnamon pastry
It's a ticketed event, so you have to purchase ahead of time, and tickets cost $65. For that, you get the four-course dinner, non-alcoholic beverages and one of the three books (your choice). It's a pretty sweet deal, if I say so myself. Plus you get to meet and have dinner with three fabulous authors!!! Join us on Thursday the 20th!

We have some excellent books and/or gift books for Father's Day. We have the six in the picture above, obviously, and bunches more on our website's Recommendations page

Saturday at 11 am, we will be welcoming students from Danny's Place Youth Services Leadership Council, as Saturday Morning Story Time readers. This is a first for us, and we're excited to welcome them to the store. If you're not familiar with the excellent work Danny's Place does, please visit their website.

Sunday at 5 pm, we'll be welcoming another group of another group of students, as we'll be hosting an open mic with Window Seat Magazine. Our bookseller Daphne is heavily involved with Window Seat, and the magazine does excellent work. We've been proud to sponsor them since we opened, and are thrilled to host an event with them.

In between, on Sunday at 2 pm, we'll be hosting the Tylen Rocks group outside the store. Acton resident Emma Cummingham will be here to paint rocks and help spread them around town. It's an awesome idea, and one that we are excited to host. You can read more about that event here.
