"How do you keep kids reading over the summer?" It's a question we've heard before, and likely will again. While ultimately, kids will need to love reading to want to keep at it when they're on summer vacation, we can do our part to help them through the process. How do we it? Well, with bribery of course!

Last summer, we ran our first Summer Reading Program. It was very successful, and we're looking forward to doing it again. Like last summer, we've partnered with several businesses in the neighborhood to entice kids to read. You can see everyone who has already agreed to participate here:

We'll be kicking our Summer Reading program off next Thursday from noon-2 pm. For some neighboring towns that might feel like a random day, but it's the day after school lets out in Acton and Boxborough. Last year, we celebrated by giving out free ice cream cones in our parking lot, which was a lot of fun. But luckily, now we have an ice-cream shop in the neighborhood! So, here's what to do this year:

- Come pick up your Summer Reading form on Thursday, June 20th, here in the store.
- Head over to West Side Creamery (around the corner at 537 Mass. Ave.) between the hours of noon and 2 pm on Thursday, June 20th and show them your Summer Reading form, and you will get a "mini"-sized ice cream for free, courtesy of us!

We're super excited to partner with West Side Creamery on this event, and hope you'll stop in to get your Summer Reading form next Thursday. Like last year, when you turn in your form upon completion, you'll get three things:

- A $5 gift card to The Silver Unicorn
- A coupon for a free cookie from Legends Cafe (across the street)
- You'll be entered to win a gift card/prizes from participating neighborhood businesses.

Pretty sweet, huh? (pun intended) And all your kids have to do for these gift cards and sweet treats is read for eight hours this summer. It's not a heavy lift, even for hesitant readers!

As an added bonus, we're also introducing a Summer Reading program for adults. The program for adults will be a little different, in that adults won't have to fill out a form or read for a certain number of hours, and they won't be eligible for free ice cream or cookies. Basically, we're putting together a list of recommended summer reads for adults, and if adults purchase one book off the list with us over the summer, we'll enter them into a prize drawing at the end of the summer!

We're very excited about our Summer Reading program, and partnering with the businesses in our neighborhood to spread a little joy this summer!

Stop by tomorrow at 11 am for our second annual Get Outside for Summer Story Time! Authors Sarah S. Brannen, Toni Buzzeo, Sara Levine, Gina Perry, Melissa Stewart and Sarah Grace Tuttle will be on hand to discuss their books that delve into fun outdoorsy things like archaeology, dinosaurs, camping, flowers, seashells, animals, insects and more! There will activities to do in addition to story time. This is fast becoming one of our favorite events, and we hope you'll join us!

We have some excellent books and/or gift books for Father's Day. We have the six in the picture above, obviously, and bunches more on our website's Recommendations page
