Next Saturday is one of the best days of the year - Independent Bookstore Day! This year is the fifth annual celebration of independent bookstores, and we'll be doing so in style.

First off, we'll have a bunch of Independent Bookstore Day exclusive merch on hand. Some of it will be free, some of it won't. Let's look at the free stuff first:

There are four free items: 1) An Atlas Obscura map of Literary Locations, 2) A free "Overheard on the Titanic" print, which is a blackout poem from the book, Keep Going, by Austin Kleon. The poem reads "'I mean, yes, we're sinking,' but the music is exceptional." 3) A book of Poems to Keep in Your Pocket, and 4) James Flora character stickers.

There will also be several exclusive items for sale:

They are, from top left going clockwise: 1) An exclusive Wings of Fire short story, 2) autographed paperbacks of The Girl Who Drank the Moon with an exclusive sticker pack, 3) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie "We Should All Be Feminists" pouch/pencil case, 4) autographed copies of Ada Twist and the Perilous Pants with an Ada Twist patch, 5) a What to Eat With What You Read book, featuring menus, recipes and reading lists from Min-Jin Lee, Roxane Gay, Robin Sloan and a host of other authors, and 6) An On the Come Up Journal. There will also be an original, signed Maggie Stiefvater print, but we don't have the final artwork for that yet.

But that's not all! While we won't be having our usual Saturday Morning Story Time, we will be hosting two wonderful events for Independent Bookstore Day. The first is with Ali Benjamin, at 2 pm, for her middle-grade novel, The Next Great Paulie Fink.

We are really thrilled to be hosting Ali. Her first novel, The Thing About Jellyfish, is a staff favorite, and was a finalist for the National Book Award. Her latest, The Next Great Paulie Fink, is just as good. It centers on Caitlyn Breen, a new student at an alternative school where she is one of just 11 seventh graders. And the seventh grader she just replaced is the legendary Paulie Fink. Only, her classmates didn't know she'd be replacing him. I am loving the book, and your middle-grade readers will too!

Then at 7 pm, we'll be hosting two debut thriller writers, Jessica Barry and Megan Collins. Jessica, who wrote Freefall is from nearby Hudson, and Megan, who wrote The Winter Sister, is from Connecticut. Both come with strong pedigrees, and have produced excellent debut novels. This will be an awesome event, and we're very much looking forward to it!

So join us early and often next Saturday for Independent Bookstore Day, we're going to have a lot of fun!
We have partnered with Libro.fm Audiobooks. When you purchase books or memberships through Libro.fm/SilverUnicorn, we get compensated! You can learn more about Libro.fm on the newly-created Audiobooks page of our website, but the main highlights are:
    - Libro.fm is independently owned, unlike
Audible, which is owned by Amazon.
    - Unlike with Audible, you will own books you
      purchase from Libro.fm DRM-free, meaning
you can play it on any device you want!
