JANUARY-FEBRUARY 2022

GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE.

In January, the Somerville Chamber brought together Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, community leaders and area developers for a roundtable meeting of the minds at Boynton Yards. Mayor Ballantyne and her economic development team also toured 101 South with the Boynton Yards team and had a chance to learn about Cellarity, one of our first life sciences tenants. What was discussed? A continued community-driven development process that supports the goals of SomerVision as we all build for the needs of the future.

THE MAKER MOVEMENT HUDDLE AT THE HIVE.

BUILDING 2 IN 2022.

We’re making steady progress on Building 2 with the completion of the slurry wall foundation and installation of reinforced steel (aka rebar cage).  The drill rig also arrived on the job, and concrete was placed for the cap beam on top of the slurry wall foundation. Excavation will follow in coming months.

THE ART OF BOYNTON.

A new LED video art installation is on display in our first lab building at 101 South. Imagineered by Sosolimited, the tech behind the piece is pretty cool. The lobby ceiling camera detects and records motion that influences and feeds an algorithm, which continuously changes the piece. See it to believe it. We’re also planning for more murals and public art exhibits across our Boynton Yards campus to support local artists.

BUILD WELL, BE WELL.

Here at Boynton Yards, we’re delivering an environmentally and socially responsible project. How? Our buildings will be LEED certifiable – the world’s most widely used green building certification, which requires buildings to be healthy, highly efficient, and environmentally sound. At 101 South, scientists of Flagship Pioneering-founded companies are creating breakthroughs in human health and sustainability as they conduct global research in their new modern lab.
And speaking of health, employees at 101 South can look forward to a workout when the building’s new fitness center opens in coming months, but for now we found two great local escapes for the mind and body. Be.Yoga offers classes in a warm to hot environment and FitLAB Pilates combines science and fitness to challenge your body. Need new workout clothes? We love Strong Black Girl, who you can also shop at our Boynton Yard festivals.

 NOSHIN' IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

While Boynton’s eateries remain under construction, employees at 101 South are partaking in a variety of neighborhood food choices. With the help of Fooda, local pop-up lunch choices are now available on site.  One favorite: Somerville’s Pennypacker’s delish porchetta. And, a big thanks to The Hive’s own Taza Chocolate, for serving up the BEST hot chocolate pick-me-up bar to make the Boynton workday that much better.
And speaking of Noshin’, The Boynton Yards team can't get enough of the Peruvian fare at Celeste in Union Square.

GO GREEN!

The MBTA confirmed last week that light rail train service at the new GLX Somerville Union Square station will begin on March 21. This will mark the first opening of a new line on the T’s core rapid transit network since 1987 and will connect Boynton Yards directly to the Cambridge and Greater Boston communities. We're connected!

SUMMER CONCERTS.

And, of course (!), by popular demand the ONCE @ Boynton Yards Summer Concert Series will return to our rockin’ parking lot at 0 Windsor Place. Eight Saturday dates from June through September 2022 to be announced soon. Yeah, we’re stoked.

WE NEED A KICK.

Boynton Yards is proud to partner with Somerville Youth Soccer (SYS), the city’s largest youth organization. SYS helps young people learn the game of soccer and the meaning of teamwork while ensuring all kids have a chance to play regardless of socioeconomic circumstances. “This partnership enhances the commitment that Boynton Yards is showing to our city's youth,” said Executive Director Jim Seavey. “The future is certainly bright for our organization and our community.”
We’re a community-driven development team here at Boynton so stay connected by subscribing to the Boynton Beat, surfing our soon-to-be-updated website, and keeping up on our social channels.
