April 2020
Rust Remover
and Egress Training

Public health orders issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic prevent NWTFA from proceeding with the Rust Remover and egress training at this time.  Consideration will be given to hosting these events once restrictions have been lifted.
Maintenance and
Annual Inspections

COVID-19 social distancing is not currently expected to impact annual inspections and maintenance in Yellowknife.  NWTFA understands that both Jean Martin and Blair Jensen remain available to perform inspections and other maintenance for our members.
Transport Canada COVID-19 Measures

Transport Canada has implemented a number of exemptions and restrictions which impact general aviation.  Detailed information on these measures, including their applicability and duration, can be found on its website.  Items affecting NWTFA members include the following:

Medical Examinations -
Civil aviation medical examiners have been directed not to perform pilot medical examinations until further notice.  Holders of medical certificates valid as of March 17, 2020 and expiring on or before June 1, 2020 may continue to exercise the privileges of their licence until August 1, 2020.  Holders of previously expired medical certificates are out of luck.  NWTFA has determined that Transport Canada will not authorize local medical examiners to proceed with examinations despite their availability and the lack of COVID-19 in the jurisdiction.

Licence Renewals - Holders of Canadian aviation document booklets valid on March 12, 2020 may continue exercising the privileges stated in their booklet for a period of 90 days beyond the original expiry date affixed in the booklet.

Annual Inspections - The 12-month annual inspection requirement remains in effect as aircraft maintenance engineers are considered essential services.

Recency Requirements - Pilot recency requirements remain in effect since the 24-month recency requirement can be met through methods other than in-person attendance at a Rust Remover.
