$30 Membership for 30th Anniversary
Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and of the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children (CCRC). Join the Coalition to promote respect for children's rights across Canada.
The Coalition was established in 1989 to promote awareness and implementation of the Convention in Canada. We are still doing that - and the need is as great as it was in 1989!
All contributions this year are being used to increase public awareness and engagement in the current review of Canada.
In honour of the 30th Anniversary, the board of the CCRC decided to offer a special membership for $30 this year. Link to Membership Form. It's easy. Do it now.
As a member, you support the critical role that the CCRC plays in advocacy and monitoring progress for children's rights in Canada, especially during the review process this year. A series of Fact Sheets raises awareness in Canada, and the CCRC will facilitate reporting to the UN Committee in 2020.
As a member, you support effective advocacy. Last year the CCRC was instrumental in making several strategic gains, such as recognition of children's rights in new federal legislation on family law and indigenous children's services.
As a member, you support CCRC newsletters, conferences, and training workshops to increase knowledge and connection for anyone interested in children's rights in Canada.
30 years is a point to reflect on progress made and look ahead. What have we learned in our work for children's rights? What comes next?
The CCRC invites you to share a reflection from your experience and/or your hopes for the future of children's rights in Canada. Reflections will be shared through newsletters and a special page on our website, starting right after the election.
This is a free-thinking exchange - not official positions. We welcome thought-provoking reflections, fresh ideas, "out-of-the-box" thoughts. What difference has the Convention made in Canada? If you could rewrite the Convention, what would you put at the top? How can we better overcome resistance in Canada? Are we missing opportunities for progress? What has changed? If you would like to contribute or discuss this further, contact Kathy Vandergrift through email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Annual General Meeting
Many members are hosting special events in November this year because of the 30th Anniversary. To avoid conflict, the board decided to hold its annual general meeting by teleconference on October 24 and host more regional and thematic in-person gatherings as part of the review process in 2020.
Reflections on 30 years of work to promote children's rights will be shared electronically across the country through our newsletter and website.
Mark October 24 at 12 Noon to participate in the AGM by conference call. The focus will be next steps in the review process and future plans for the CCRC. Everyone is welcome; to participate. Voting is limited to paid members. For more information, send a message to email@example.com.
