Student Newsletter

OCTOBER 2018

Hey there <<First Name>>!

Here at Push we don't really like to use the 'D' word but here it is: DEADLINES.

Today, October 15th marks the cut–off point for Oxbridge, medicine, veterinary and dentistry applications. Put it in your diary, write it on the back of your hand, text yourself, get it tattooed on your forehead, whatever works for you. But even if you don't plan on roaming the halls of Oxbridge with your stethoscope or artificial inseminator in tow, it’s still time to get serious about your application, as many other students are applying now.

Read on for info on student life, mental health and apprenticeships.

If you can’t wait for the next newsletter why not check out our archives here. We'll see you soon.

WHAT'S NEW?
UNI - INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENTS

We’re lucky that mental health awareness is ever improving, and the stigmas and taboos are slowly being lifted. But that doesn’t mean we live in a perfect mental health utopia, so it’s important to look out for yourself and plan ahead if uni’s in the cards for you.

One of the most important things to do if you suffer with your mental health is to look out for universities who have a strong support network for students and their mental health issues...Read More.
APPRENTICESHIPS

So maybe uni isn’t for you. No problem, there are as many different styles of learning as there are people in the world, and it’s just fact that some learn better by doing than by reading from a textbook. If that sounds like you, now might be a good time to start thinking about apprenticeships...Read More.
HOW TO START GOOD BUDGETING TIPS THAT WILL LAST

Good student finance is difficult. It’s not like riding a bike. And if it was it would be the worst bike in the world, with pins sticking out of the seat and no pedals.

A typical student will be living away from home for the first time. There’ll probably be no financial safety net as you booze your way around town racking up debt...Read More.
WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING?
For year 12s

So, you're settled into the swing of sixth form. In the future is Christmas and your next proper break. Sadly, that’s not all it holds: the future’s creeping up on you like a scary clown. The difference is your future's not a goofy fourteen-year-old in a mask...Read More.
For year 13s

The deadline for applications to Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary science courses is today, so get a move on if you still want to apply. Otherwise, you’ll have to take a gap year and apply next year — which might not be so bad anyhow. To double check other upcoming deadlines or application requirements go to the UCAS website... WHAT NEXT?
Push titbits of news and advice on heading to uniapprenticeshipsschool leaver schemes, and the world of work

This month, it's all about apprenticeship schemes, so read on if you're interested in taking the vocational route.
6 REASONS TO AVOID THE ESSAY CHEATS

The web is full of dodgy types and one that students in particular should avoid are the essay cheats – or, as they’re sometimes called, ‘essay mills’... Read More.
LOOKING OUT FOR YOURSELF AT UNI

It might be shocking to know, but 4 out of 5 people between the ages of 18 and 21 know someone who has experienced a mental health problem. A quarter of all people in the same age group are worried about the mental health of someone their age... Read More.
