A new season means new reasons to reflect and renew
It’s been a while since I last wrote. I apologize for the silence, but when your town gets hit with 100 mph+ winds, all you can do is hang on and hope for the best. (If you missed the derecho storm, a sort of inland hurricane, that hit Cedar Rapids, click here.)
Yes, the derecho was devastating, but in true Midwestern fashion, we’ve (mostly) pulled through the worst of the damage. A huge shoutout to all those who offered (and continue to offer) time and resources to the cleanup.
And now, we carry on. But life is still far from normal. I feel the need to give kudos to everyone still surfing the ups and downs of the pandemic, doing their best to keep businesses and organizations afloat; and to parents and all adults (I see you, grandparents!) helping kids to learn in new ways and in new environments. 2020 just keeps giving, doesn’t it?
And yet, we continue to rise to the occasion, to suck it up, to push back, and to move forward. The weariness that comes with all of this is real, and so I also ask you to please take the time to care for your own health – physical and mental. Need a prompt to get started? Try two cleansing breaths; inhaling for a count of 5, holding your breath for a count of 3, and exhaling for a count of 4. All together now: Ahhhh!
A couple of apps I use to combat mental fatigue are Calm, Headspace, and Insight Timer. Give one or all of them a try and let me know what you think.
