NOMV News

Our mission is to transform the status of mental wellness within the profession so all veterinary professionals can survive and thrive through education, resources, and support.

NOMV Veterinary Appreciation Event

The NOMV Seacoast New England Chapter held their first Veterinary Appreciation Event for New Hampshire & Maine veterinary professionals this past weekend. We brought together a wonderful group to share helpful information, play games, and give out lots of prizes!

This was the first of many NOMV Ambassador events and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for local chapters!
Veterinary Mental Health Initiative

We are thrilled to show our support and share an additional resource offered to veterinary technicians! Beginning Monday, Nov. 1st at 5PM PDT, our partners at the Veterinary Mental Health Initiative will be facilitating a live virtual support group pilot study, led by Dr. Anna Kreiter, Psy.D.

These virtual face-to-face groups are 100% free, confidential, meet for one hour weekly for 6 weeks, and are facilitated by understanding clinical psychologists with specialties in depression and anxiety, grief and loss, work-life balance, trauma, and suicide prevention and response. As a reminder, NOMV Peer Support groups are always open to veterinary professionals on our Facebook forums!

For more information or to RSVP for the live support group, please email Dr. Katie Lawlor at klawlor@shanti.org.
Send a WAVE

Thank a member of the veterinary community by sending an eCard via WAVE! For each eCard sent, Harbor Vet by Suveto will donate $1 to NOMV. A great way to share gratitude and care in the community!

WAVE was started by veterinary students who cherish those moments when a veterinarian in their life inspired them and ultimately led them down the path of this incredible career. The founders aspire to remind veterinarians just how much they mean to us and how valued their wellness is.

Program Spotlight: NOMV Ambassadors

NOMV Ambassadors launched on July 1, 2021 as part of the NOMV Education Committee. The mission of the NOMV Ambassador Program is to add local support networks to unite and support the veterinary community on a local level. Each local Ambassador Chapter will strive to:
  • Reduce mental health stigma
  • Identify, share, and collect resources of local support for those in need
  • Increase awareness of the mental health challenges in our veterinary community and the difficulties of the profession
  • Act as a source of support, networking, socialization, and education for our local veterinary community
  • Introduce and launch new initiatives, events, and resources

This incredible new program was developed by a team of volunteers committed to expanding NOMV’s resources and peer-to-peer support to local communities, beyond the Facebook community where we originally started. Before long, NOMV hopes to see a chapter in every community hosting educational events about NOMV and cultivating a sense of community at a local level through wellness events and activities hosted by the local chapter.
