Honoring Mother's

Every day I thank God for my mother, and I’m sure many can say the same about their own mothers. All of us are blessed with a mother, even if we seldom see her, or no longer live with her, or if she is no longer on this earth.

What makes our mothers such a gift? Why do they influence our entire lives? Compassion, unconditional love, patience, joy, surrender, self-sacrifice – these are just a few attributes that mothers demonstrate. There is no question that motherhood demands tremendous sacrifices. True motherhood requires what we all desire deep down: courage, dedication, selflessness, and the fulfillment and joy that naturally follow. This is what we honor in our mothers.

Motherhood is sacred because every mother not only brings her child into the world but provides them with the foundation on which to build their future. Mother’s Day is all about celebrating the woman who raised you and shaped who you are as a person. From all the packed lunches with napkin notes, to the bandages and kisses after falling off your bike, to being the first one to cry at your graduation– your mom was there for it all. It’s important to thank her for all the love and work she put in through the years. Be sure to remind her of your love and appreciation this Mother's Day.

I think we can do more to honor our mothers this Mother’s Day. Let’s consider how to more faithfully honor our mothers. Be a better role model and put into practice the sacrifices and example that they have taught. When it comes to our mothers, we can never repay them and honor them enough, but by doing some of these things, we’ll truly honor our mothers, and make this Mother’s Day memorable.

"All that I am, or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." -Abraham Lincoln

Mother's Day is celebrated in countries around the world—and has ancient roots. In the United States this year, Mother's Day is celebrated on May 10, 2020.

Talk Telehealth

As of March, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has expanded access to telehealth services so beneficiaries have access to a wider range of services, without having to travel to a health care facility and potentially expose themselves to COVID-19. This means that traditional Medicare will cover the cost of telehealth usage, regardless of the reason it is needed (not just specific to COVID-19).

This broadening of services is crucial for those who may struggle with comorbidities or pre-existing conditions, but it’s also important for those who may be struggling with mental health during this time, as Medicare beneficiaries now have access to counseling through telehealth services.

For those who have Medicare Advantage plans, make sure they are aware of their specific provider’s protocol for this benefit. Aetna, for example, is currently offering zero co-pay telemedicine visits with network providers to all Aetna individual and group Medicare Advantage members for any reason, COVID-19 related or otherwise.
