Covid Testing, Fireworks, and Summer Reading Lists!

Medicare now covers coronavirus testing

You may be hearing about the coronavirus (officially called 2019-novel coronavirus or COVID-19) in the news. While there isn’t a vaccine yet, Medicare is still here to help. Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers a test to see if you have coronavirus

You usually pay nothing for Medicare-covered clinical diagnostic laboratory tests

To prevent the spread of this illness or other illnesses including the flu, here are some tips to follow:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
  • Stay home when you’re sick
  • See your doctor if you think you’re ill

For more information on the coronavirus, please visit the Centers for Disease Control website.

To help stop the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), many businesses have temporarily closed. If you recently stopped working or lost your health coverage through your job (or another person’s job, like your spouse), you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period to enroll in Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance).

If you already have Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance), and want to enroll in Part B, you have 2 options:

1. Apply Online: Visit SSA.gov/medicare-partb-sep and follow the instructions provided.

2. If you’re signing up for Medicare for the first time: Apply online at Social Security. During the online application, you can choose whether you want Part B.

This 4th Of July, Be Smart And Safe When You Set Off Fireworks and When You Gather with Friends or Family.

Fireworks shows continue to fizzle this summer as officials work to prevent large gatherings that could spread the coronavirus.

Salt Lake City residents and others can still host their own private fireworks shows. Capital city officials encourage limiting those gatherings to 20 people and urge attendees to wear masks and practice social distancing.

In lieu of a public fireworks show, the city is calling on residents and business to decorate their properties in patriotic colors. A city events team will evaluate the displays from 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Independence Day and issue prizes for the best overall décor; best use of red, white and blue; most creative décor; and most patriotic neighborhood. Participants can register for the “Red, White and You” contest by filling out a Google form.

*Be sure to follow guidelines for your specific county. Look up rules and regulations and possible events happening around you.

Our office will be closed on July 3rd to observe the holiday.

Summer Reading

Do you enjoy sitting down and reading a good book? Are you more of a fan of listening to one on audible? I am definitely more of an audible fan because I can listen to my book throughout the day when I am in my car, folding laundry, or on a walk. There is no right or wrong way to read. I know I love a good story.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss

This month, I thought it'd be fun to share with you a list of books that I've read this summer and loved. I would love to hear from you! What are some of the books you've read that you have enjoyed? Send me an email back with the name of a book you would recommend to others. In next month's email, I will compile a list of recommendations received and I share it with you!
