Kate Holbrook presents the annual Neal A. Maxwell Lecture tonight in three languages

Dr. Kate Holbrook of the Church History Department has accepted the invitation to present the 2020 Neal A. Maxwell Lecture. It premieres tonight at 7pm MST in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, including a live Q&A with Dr. Holbrook following the presentation. (Spanish begins at 7:15pm.)

In our lives, concerns about legacy can quickly undermine our noblest intentions, break our sense of self and community, and breed toxic competition. Fixation on legacy can hamper both scholarship and discipleship in complex and interacting ways. But the disciple’s path can help scholars and non-scholars alike—allowing us to handle our failures, and even our success, in beneficial and holy ways.

Daniel Becerra to discuss 3rd, 4th Nephi this Sunday with the John A. Widtsoe Foundation

Sunday, November 8
6pm MST

In this week’s online Book of Mormon Conversation, BYU's Daniel Becerra will be talking with Laura Redford of the John A. Widtsoe Foundation about the brief theological introduction to 3rd and 4th Nephi.

Becerra enlists this crucial part of the Book of Mormon as a guide in the disciple’s pursuit of Christ and Christlikeness. What do these books reveal about divine nature, human nature, and the means of bridging the gap between the two?

Becerra places Christ at the center of all theological thinking in his interpretation of these remarkable books of scripture. He proposes that the fullest expression of discipleship—Christlikeness—can only be found in community and collaboration.
