Legislative Update on FY 2023 Appropriations
Clint Bain and David McBryde, Legislative Co-Chairs
December 2, 2022
The House and Senate are now negotiating the final appropriations agreement for Fiscal Year 2023. With the current continuing resolution (CR) expiring December 16, 2022, we expect the legislative branch will soon pass another short-term spending bill funding the Government through December 23, 2022. The extra time will be required to finalize negotiations and move the legislation through the full House and Senate.
When the dust settles, we expect an increase to Farm Service Agency salaries and expenses and continuation of previous year’s legislative language. In addition, the Congress is considering significant funding for 2022 agriculture disasters. Any disaster program will likely cover losses from crop year 2022.
The NASCOE Legislative team will keep membership updated as negotiations progress. For now, we have no reason to expect any Government shutdown.
