2018 SSIA Conference Recap

Thank you to everyone who attended this year's SSIA Conference to the Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta - three, fun-filled days' worth of networking, learning, and celebrating each other's businesses!

We kicked off the start with our New Member Social on Tuesday evening, where we welcomed Lael Morgan with Ottawa Sport & Social Club, PJ Falter and Raph Carranza with Dayton Sportcial, and Trevor Hall with JaxSport to the SSIA.

Wednesday included our official Conference Kickoff Assembly, followed by three separate sessions of learning seminars.  Everyone then had the opportunity to enjoy the Welcome Reception under the stars that evening.

Thursday was jam-packed with our General Assembly, learning seminars, the SSIA Team Challenge AND the Social Star Awards Dinner.  Chris Hastings and Chris Wessely were on fire that night, as were all of the presenters for the different awards categories!

We wrapped up the conference Friday with morning seminars and closing remarks.  The group that stayed Friday night enjoyed an amazing sunset on the Sunset Cruise.

Upcoming EC Elections
Nominations for the Executive Committee election open next week!

Although a few of them might look like a motley bunch (gotta love Sa Dao, Robert Kinsler, and their rock-n-roll ways), their decision-making prowess is no joke!  The EC is the governing body of the SSIA.  It's responsibilities are to set the direction for the SSIA, oversee all SSIA initiatives and act as final authority in the management of the SSIA.  This group is relied upon heavily for its time, leadership and resources.

If you would like to step up and serve, please consider running this year.  We want representation from clubs of all sizes, so don't be shy!  Plus, after receiving feedback from interested potential nominees, the board has decided that the six members voted to the EC with least seniority will now receive 2-year terms, and the six with the most seniority will get 1-year terms.  This will help to give newly-elected board members the opportunity to learn the ropes the first year, and take on initiatives the second.

Please keep an eye out for the official announcement and instructions on how to be nominated on Facebook, Slack and email.  If you have any questions about responsibilities and obligations, please email ec@ssia.us.

Welcome New Sponsors!

Mobile Leagues LLC was founded in 2015 and aims to provide mobile and web technology solutions to recreational social sports leagues (B2B) and a social event solution to consumers (B2C) throughout the United States and Canada.

Their goal is to be a healthy and successful leader with a loyal customer and partner following. By the end of 2018, they are targeting bringing on 20 businesses to be using their platform.

According to Owner, Chad Day, and previous SSIA Industry Member and owner of Charlottesville Sports & Social Club, the recreational sports league industry is currently technologically fragmented. The owners of their respective clubs lack available mobile solutions and resources to compete in their marketplace against other nearby clubs. Most businesses in the industry do not have a strong mobile technology solution or any experience in technology at all. As mobile- and web-based solutions for being active in the community and marketplace mature beyond other social media options, such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, they are positioning themselves as the leading technology solution for in-person social organization and interaction.

Players are increasingly tuning out newsletters, or they are getting filtered directly out of view. With Mobile League's targeted push notifications, players can be effectively engaged, promoted to, and retained.
