November 2020 Newsletter

Dear Subscribers,

While this year continues to prove challenging, it's important that we focus on the things that bring us a feeling of thankfulness. I came across the poem, "Ithaka" by Constantine P. Cavafy that SSIA Member, Kristi Herold from the Sport & Social Group, shared on Facebook. I found it to be exceptionally fitting this year, and especially during this month, when we might be struggling to find reasons to be thankful. I hope in reading it, that it has a positive impact on your day and weeks to come.

In this month's newsletter, we will announce the dates and seminar topics for the 2021 SSIA Virtual Conference and provide helpful COVID-related resources.  We will also share the exciting initiatives the Marketing Committee has launched, request member feedback in a survey designed to help quantitate the COVID-19 transmission risk within the adult sports league industry, and highlight several sponsors and partners.

If you have any questions or comments, please send them to

Registration will open in the next several weeks, so keep an eye out for the announcement!

Thank you to everyone who completed the webinar topic survey.  The Conference Planning Committee is working hard to find webinar leaders on the following topics:

Staying Active Through Government Engagement

On November 18th, SSIA members attended a webinar presented by Terri Lakowski and Jason Marmon from Active Policy Solutions on "Government Engagement 101".  Topics discussed included:

  • Levels of advocacy
  • Levels of local government / authority at that level
  • Power structures
  • Elected vs appointed vs hired officials
  • How to get answers to your questions
  • Creating your organization 1-pager
  • Identifying your targets

The recording, slideshow and sample one-pagers are available in the Coronavirus Resource Library in the members-only Locker Room.  The next webinar series will focus on how to do outreach with government officials at the local, state and federal levels.  We will announce the date of that webinar soon!

This information should not be used towards marketing efforts! The data will be aggregated and shared with SSIA members to provide them with talking points that they can share with their government officials and municipalities in their efforts to return to play.
