We wrapped up the 2019 SSIA Conference last week, and have been busy debriefing. We hope that those of you who made it to St. Pete walked away with new friends in the industry, some great ideas and tons of motivation to propel you into greater success in 2019 and beyond!
In this month's newsletter, we will highlight the conference, remind everyone who attended to rate their seminars, share instructions on how to access the Locker Room, private Facebook page and Slack channel, welcome our newest SSIA members and sponsor, and highlight a Partner and our Social Star Award winners.
Additionally, the EC Elections will be held in March this year! If you are interested in running for the board, now is the time to start campaigning! Feel free to reach out to any current or past EC members with questions, and keep an eye out for a formal announcement to go out next week on Facebook, Slack and email. Remember, change happens from within!
If you have any questions or comments, or would like to be considered for a future Highlight opportunity, please contact Krissy at firstname.lastname@example.org.

2019 SSIA Conference Recap
Team Challenge teams getting ready to compete for this year's bragging rights and coveted Gold Medal! Congrats to Team Blue for taking home the W!
The 2019 SSIA Conference proved throughout the week that we are far greater than the sum of our parts.
The SSIA Staff, Conference Committee and EC worked together to pull off our highest-attended conference in our association’s history, with 174 attendees from 51 SSIA member clubs in attendance!
Chris Giebner and the Club Sport team knocked it out of the ballpark with securing the sponsorship for the Social Star Awards to be held at the James Museum via their connections with Visit St. Pete. Their team, along with the Team Challenge captains and volunteers, continued to rock it at their facility, Rec Dec St. Pete, on Thursday for the Team Challenge!
The Game On! Sports team from Buffalo elevated our Welcome Reception and New Member Social by covering the event with their "Amateur Hour" live podcast. Chris Wessely of the Sport & Social Group, Chris Hastings of Chicago Sport & Social Club, the Social Star Committee (Brian Irving with Chicago Sport & Social Club, Robert Kinsler with United Fray and John Pantzer with Circle City Athletics) and the Team Challenge teams all contributed to making the Social Star Awards Show an unforgettable one! And Louis Hodgetts from Game On VT filled our bellies with pizza at the Social Star Awards after-party.
The Executive Committee and Marketing and Sponsorship Sub-Committees did an awesome job presenting their initiatives during the General Assembly on Thursday morning. This was followed by our keynote speaker, marketing, branding and creativity expert, Ron Tite of Church+State, a marketing agency in Toronto. He delivered a powerful message, "Think.Say.Do."
The seminar leaders consisting of pros from both within and outside of our industry covered 21 relevant and helpful topics. Kristi Herold with the Sport & Social Group made the keynote speech from Ron Tite possible, along with organizing a heartwarming toast to all the ladies in attendance (33% of our total attendees)!
Our partners and sponsors contributed through awesome giveaways, leading seminars, and planning fantastic outings. And last but certainly not least, our attendees invested their time, money, and knowledge, without which, there wouldn’t be a conference...or the SSIA!
As we move forward, let's not lose the amazing momentum we gained last week. Let’s continue growing, collaborating and keeping in mind that we are all indeed greater than the sum of our parts.
Log into the Locker Room for the 2019 Conference Presentation and Seminar slides. If you led a seminar, please don't forget to send your presentation slides to email@example.com!
If you haven't done so, please remember to rate the seminars you attended by 8pm EST Friday, March 1st. You can do this through the Conference App or via the link provided on Facebook, Slack and email earlier this week.
To access the Locker Room, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an assigned username and temporary password. Once received, follow these step-by-step instructions.Locker Room access is given to SSIA Members only.
There is no longer a limit on the number of people clubs can request to join the Private SSIA Facebook Group! Any full or part time office employee of a member club can be granted access. Any employee granted access must have a valid company related email address. Additions & modifications must be requested to the SSIA Director or staff. Changes in the employment status of any assignment must also be notified to the director or staff in a timely manner.
This pageis useful to the SSIA since it is a very commonly used platform for all clubs and their employees, accessible by most at all hours via mobile or desktop.
The private Facebook group has a rich history of discussions. Users are encouraged to search the thread for relevant topics prior to posting new ones. (searching the group for keywords can be done both on desktop and mobile). Additional guidelines are posted in the Locker Room under Knowledge Share Guidelines.
There are two possible ways to add someone to the group page:
Submit a request directly through the SSIA group page. Once you do this, please email email@example.com so that she can approve the request. Please also provide her with the new member's first and last name, title and email address.
Ask the new member to send Krissy a Facebook friend request. Follow-up with Krissy via email and provide her with the new member's first and last name, title and email address.
The purpose of the Slack channel is to:
Share, collaborate, and most importantly create a searchable archive of specific industry-related discussions that would previously have been had in Facebook private group
Private direct messaging of industry-related items between members
Similar to the private Facebook group, any full or part time office employee of a member club can be granted access. Any employee granted access must have a valid company related email address. Additions & modifications must be requested to the SSIA Director or staff. Changes in the employment status of any assignment must also be notified to the director or staff in a timely manner.
For access to Slack, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the person's first and last name, title and email address. Krissy will follow-up via email once the Slack invitation has gone out. If you do not receive a Slack invite, please check your Spam folder.

We are excited to welcome JD LeJeune with Active Fredericton to the SSIA!
Based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, Active Fredericton currently offers co-ed ultimate, co-ed dodgeball, and co-ed basketball leagues. Their coordinators are actively involved with local, provincial, regional and National Ultimate organizations and seek to bring ultimate frisbee’s “Spirit Of The Game” concepts to as many types of sports as possible (self-officiating, mutual respect between opponents, spirit ratings and socializing with opponents).
Please join us in welcoming back Josh Marcus and NYC Basketball to the SSIA!
The league is a mix of corporate-sponsored teams, groups of friends, and individual free agents. League members come from a wide range of industries and backgrounds, and they even have some well known New Yorkers who have not given up their love of the game.
Both teams and free agents are placed in divisions based on their self-assessed skill level and position before their first season. Afterwards, all players and teams are moved up/down a division based on their performance and their feedback on their experience.
NYC Basketball is proud to help plan & provide basketball-related events for schools, charities, and other organizations that give back to New York. Past examples include events planned for New York-based youth basketball groups and teams, jersey and equipment donations to local youth groups, and support of New York scholarship competitions.
