CIRC had the exciting opportunity to connect with our members at our 2023 Membership Meeting in May. The meeting involved a great turn out from members and raised plenty of interesting discussion about future CIRC projects.

CIRC president Dr.Neeraj Narula welcomed our members and highlighted our 2022 successes, including the PIONEER grant competition, the publication of three CIRC studies, and our good fiscal standing.

Dr. Harminder Singh, CIRC's Director of Research, provided attendees with an overview of the Scientific Committee, gave them a quick update about the most recent winter Call for Proposals, and announced that there will be a second call later this year. The PIs of current CIRC studies were also present at the meeting to provide updates.

CIRC Vice President Dr. Talat Bessissow discussed in depth the status of the Database, and Member-at-Large Dr. Chris Ma detailed the results of the Delphi Survey. The two executives announced a second Delphi Survey, and engaged members in a productive discussion about possible next steps in which many encouraging ideas emerged.

To conclude the meeting, the president announced a Call for the CIRC Vice President position, noted that the Annual Meeting date and Scientific Call recipients would be released within the coming weeks, and graciously thanked members for attending.

Following the Membership Meeting, the CIRC Scientific Committee met in May to review the 7 proposals received for our Winter Call. We are thrilled to announce that the committee has recommended two proposals for funding.

The first study awarded was "Development of a Clinical Prediction Model to Guide Timing of Screening and Surveillance Colonoscopy in Adults with Colonic Inflammatory Bowel Disease" by Dr. Sanjay Murthy et al.

The second study awarded was "Bowel preparation for colonoscopy among individuals with IBD: A randomized controlled trial" by Dr. Harminder Singh et al.

This year's competition was especially close, and we would like to give an honourable mention to the study "SHIFT-IBD: Switching to High-efficacy anti-Il-23 biologic From usTekinumab in active IBD" by Dr. Pablo A. Olivera Sendra and Dr. Laura Targownik et al. This study will be receiving CIRC endorsement.

We look forward to sending out a second call for proposals later this year and are excited for a new competition to begin.

Congratulations to all of the Winter 2023 Call for Proposals recipients!

CIRC's Executive Committee is looking for a new Vice President. The term for this position will begin on November 6, 2023 right after the Annual Meeting, and will last for 2 years. As part of the Executive Board, members will be expected to join virtual monthly meetings and help guide the strategy of CIRC, along with certain role-specific responsibilities.

Further, we are always receptive to members joining the board in a capacity of 'Member-at-Large'.  If you are interested in applying to any of these positions, please express your interest in a brief letter and send to by October 20, 2023.

The outcome will be announced at the Annual Meeting and a vote may occur in cases of multiple applicants for one position.

This year CIRC's Annual Meeting will be held on November 4th, 2023, immediately following the Canada Future Directions in IBD (CFD) conference. A Save the Date notice will be sent out shortly.

We hope to see you all there!
