Last week we celebrated a new year and 2021 is upon us. While 2020 had it’s challenges, I believe our resilience during the pandemic and social unrest only makes us better.

We continue to be optimistic about hiring in 2021, specifically in DFW. As employers continue to flock to Texas, so do residents. According to the U.S. Census, Texas added nearly 375,000 residents (basically the size of Arlington). While the state continues to grow, the employment market in Dallas-Fort Worth remains strong.

We believe the COVID-19 vaccine being rolled out across the country will create additional optimism and unemployment will begin to decline again. Additionally, following a polarizing election cycle, the future is now more clear than it was 2-3 months ago…allowing decisions to be made that may have been on hold.

Unemployment Update:

In December 2020, 140,000 jobs were lost while the unemployment rate remained steady at 6.7%. The job loss ended 7 consecutive months of growth, but losses were primarily in the leisure and hospitality segment (498,000) due to some temporary closures.

Meanwhile, unemployment rate for college graduates decreased from 4.2% to 3.8% in December and strong job gains in professional services, retail, and construction.
