LBCA at ASCO 2019
The American Association of Clinical Oncologists (ASCO) held its annual meeting in Chicago in June 2019. Two advocates from LBCA’s Patient Advocate Steering Committee attended this leading conference of 40,000 oncology professionals representing patients with lobular breast cancer.
LBCA interviewed two researchers at ASCO who focused on Lobular Breast Cancer. Poster co-author Dr. Otto Metzger
discussed new research that reinforces that ILC is a different disease and is associated with a pattern of late recurrence in pre-menopausal patients. ASCO Educational Session presenter Dr. Peter Lucas
discussed the growing understanding of ILC as a distinct subtype of breast cancer and the role of advocates in drawing attention to ILC. Advocate Diane Mapes was interviewed by Patient Power about her role as an advocate at ASCO and experience as a patient with Lobular Breast Cancer.
