Message From the APAC Chair

Hello All,

It’s March!  I feel like it should magically be spring, but I have lived in Washington long enough to know that we are in second winter. This is typically followed by second spring, then third winter and then, maybe just maybe, we will get real spring! I look forward to the nicer weather because there is so much to do here on the Palouse when the sun shines. I love to hike, and camp and ride my horses. As I daydream about all the fun things I want to do when the sun returns I am always impressed by all of the amazing things that you all do!

This time of year there are many award programs running at WSU and it is always a joy to watch you all win. I just recently went to the Employee Recognition Reception. Congratulations to all of you achieving your milestone year awards! Recognizing the hard work of all our APs is vitally important. You should have received several emails about award programs like the President’s Leadership Award and the WSU Women of Distinction Awards as well as possibly others. Included in this newsletter, you will see more information about nominating your fellow co-workers for the AP Contribution Awards

Good work deserves recognition. Too often we go above and beyond our job duties without recognition and we end up feeling overworked and underappreciated. So let those achievements shine, even if the sun isn’t! Nominate tPhoto of 2022-2023 APAC Chair: Angie Senterhose that are doing good work around you and I hope to see all of you on those award stages over the next few months! Go Cougs!

Give Us Your Feedback on Professional Development Topics

The APAC Professional Development committee is exploring topics focused on building a diverse workforce and developing powerful and successful team cultures; we would love your suggestions in this process!

Have you attended a professional development workshop, training, or presentation that you think would benefit the WSU staff? Or do you have an idea for a topic or recommendation for a dynamic speaker to engage the AP community?

The funds available through our professional development budget are there to serve you...our AP community! Please reach out to us and share your ideas. No idea is too big or too small; we’d love to hear them all!

Send us a message through the Contact Us section of the APAC website with the subject: APAC Speaker Ideas.

Stay Connected, Get Involved

APAC would like to share several connection opportunities and hear your voice. First, connect with us at one of our monthly APAC meetings on the second Thursday of each month. All WSU staff are invited to attend! In addition, our committees will share updates on what they are working on.

Speaking of committees, did you know you can join any of our APAC committees? They include:
  • Budget
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiatives
  • Marketing
  • Bylaws (Guidelines)/Election
  • Training/Professional Development & Events
If you would like to get involved, just drop us a note via the Contact Us page of our website. You can review APAC committee composition information or reach out to the committee chair directly.

Finally, APAC advocates for issues on behalf of the AP community; sometimes those are issues that individuals have not been able to address on their own. We have the privilege of meeting with President Schulz, Provost Chilton, and Chief Human Resource Officer Elliot-Cheslek. This exchange not only notifies university administration about potential concerns and issues, but it also gives APAC leadership direction on how to best assist with your needs.

We are grateful for WSU leadership and their commitment to making sure AP voices are heard. Thank you to the AP community for partnering with us to help promote staff job satisfaction.
