February Newsletter

This month's lecture is on the diverse work of John Piper, an artist who lived locally at Fawley Bottom, near Henley from 1935 until he died in 1992.

Tickets for the trip to Blenheim on 6th March and the April 1st Study Day on the art and architecture of Berlin will be on sale.

Monday 25 February -11.30am
Norden Farm
From cathedrals to churches, cottages to coastlines we are never very far from a place John Piper has painted, written about or undertaken a commission for. One of the most versatile British artists of the twentieth century - painter, designer, stained glass artist, photographer and writer on the arts - truly a master of diversity.
This month's lecturer, Alexandra Epps, is also a guide at Tate Modern and Tate Britain and a Pallant House lecturer. She is a Freeman of the City of London and an official guide. Her background is in design, having practised as a graphic designer running her own design consultancy.  This promises to be a fascinating lecture.

Wednesday 6th March

Tickets to visit Blenheim Palace and Exhibition 'The Young Turner: Ambitions in
Architecture and the Art of Perspective' are still available and will be available on Monday.

Chiltern Arts is an exciting and distinctive new initiative to bring music, literature and art to the towns and villages in and around the Chiltern Hills in a week long festival every February. The second Chiltern Arts Festival took place earlier this month to great reviews. Churches, stately homes and outdoor spaces across the region were transformed into stunning concert and arts venues. The season featured artists including baritone Roderick Williams, pianist Steven Osborne, top Renaissance choir ‘Stile Antico’, composer and conductor Bob Chilcott and a new production of Cosi fan Tutte.
For information about the festival or to become involved, visit
