May Newsletter!

Yay the flowers are starting to bloom! That also means gardening will start soon for many people (not me as I can barely keep fake plants alive). Don't forget to check before you plant this year! Many beautiful plants, flowers and shrubs can be dangerous for our dogs so be sure to only plant dog safe plants in and around your home. And if you have a new puppy who may want to frolic in the garden, we strongly encourage you to invest a little extra in some small fencing or barriers to keep those little ones out. It only takes a moment for those fast little munchkins to bolt for the flower bed and do a great deal of damage before you can catch up. Remember that what your puppy practices now, will be much harder to fix later.

April was a busy and eye-popping month filled with so many big successes from our students and even from Charger. Read on to learn more about how life is good for everyone!

We have been delaying as much as possible but there will be a small price increase for some group classes effective June 1st. This does not affect all class types and it is a minimal increase to reduce impact. Please see classes below for more information on the price change but remember that these prices are not applicable for any registrations prior to June 1st.

New - Although the registration process above is always to fastest to secure a space in class, walk-in enrollments are accepted Mondays from 4-5, Wednesdays 4-5. Please remember to bring your dogs vaccinations.

Classes are limited in size to provide dogs and handlers with maximum learning opportunities.  Because they are limited they often fill quickly.  In the very rare case a class does not fill with the minimum number of participants (50%) we may choose to postpone, reschedule or cancel classes.  Should this occur, we will provide the option to participants to apply their class registration fee toward the postponed or rescheduled class, an alternative class or provide a full refund.
Play Dates!

We have play dates available for puppies and young dogs who are very well socialized and enjoy the company and play of others. Play mates are matched up based on a number of factors to help build your dog/puppies confidence and skills. Play dates are 30 minutes each and are just $15 taxes included, due at the play date. All dogs and puppies joining must be up to date on vaccinations in order to join the fun. If you are new to play dates (have not yet attended one) and would like to join, please email us at quintecanine@hotmail.com, so we can match your dog accordingly.

Please note that if you sign up for a play date and are not able to attend you must provide at least 48 hours notice so we can fill your space, otherwise our standard play date fee still applies. Please be sure to mark your calendar as no reminder emails are sent. Handlers remain with their dog/puppy throughout the play session to learn more about dog communication. Please email us all of the dates/times that you are interested in and available for and we will be sure to match you up as best possible with other dogs/puppies that suit your dogs temperament. In some cases, larger dogs may join small groups and adult dogs may join puppy/small groups - this is based on the temperament of the dog(s).

Charger Update

I know many have been following his long journey over the past year and we are happy to report that our big beautiful boy has found his FURever home! From the moment we met his new adopters we hoped they would pick him as we had a good feeling about them. He is now happily romping around 10 acres with Alan and Jocelyn, going on adventures around his new community and overall enjoying life. We are receiving ongoing update emails from them, assisting his transition with ongoing support, and are so happy for everyone. It has been a long road together and we could not be happier for this guy.

When I (Yvonne) was first asked to help foster a dog for 8-10 weeks while his leg healed I could not have imagined it would be 11 months later, 5 surgeries, dozens of rehab appointments, behaviour modification and training later that I would have to say 'see ya bud' (because goodbye is forever). He was almost a feral dog (not a pet dog) when he arrived who was high anxiety, stressed and confused. Living with humans, let alone in a house was completely novel to him and with some TLC and patience, he became a stellar pet dog. In all honestly, I needed Charger as much as he might have needed me. Before Charger arrived last year, I was still reeling from the loss of my beloved Wrangler. For a year and a half before Charger came I was full time medically caring for Wrangler to end of life. Charger, I have been caring for over the past 11 months to a happy ending; and my soul really did need it. So thank you to Charger for helping my heart heal a little over the past year.

And thank you
Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward for entrusting me with him. Although there were some UGLY tears when he left last week, they were happy and sad tears all at once.
There are so many to thank from the bottom of my heart, without his 'village' none of it would be possible. His medical teams, Thank you Loyalist Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation, Cavan Hills Veterinary Services and HASTINGS VETERINARY HOSPITAL!

Special shout out to Stephanie at Just Four Paws who helped take such good extra care of Charger if we were away for short periods. He loved her so much! And of course all the donors who sent donations to Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward when he was first found and all those who have been rooting for him along the way. Thank you thank you thank you! Your support of the shelter is amazing!

Lots of big hugs to Charger’s new family and many snugs to Charger from us!

The Quinte Canine Super Sniffer need your help!

We are starting to safely plan for our detection dogs to begin their practices again and we are in need of new and unique locations for the dogs to work!

This could be an old unused building, business or cottage!
Places we have practices before: pet stores, vet offices, industrial buildings, outbuildings, homes, mechanical shops, and so much more!

If you could provide some of our amazing super sniffers a location to practice for a day you would get a front row seat to the coolest dog sport around!  Please reach out at quintecanine@hotmail.com so we can chat.

(Social distancing, masks and other COVID protocols are followed).
Super Sniffer Brags!

There were many great trials held this month as we get back into the seasons of trialing! Sometimes the conditions were nice but we are always prepared for high winds and torrential downpours. No matter the weather, or the distance to travel, the Super Sniffers will take on just about anything!

Shout out to both Laurie with Labrador Ben who achieved their Games Championship and to Kate with Harley who achieved their Scent Detection Championship this month! We all like big ribbons but it also means cake!  :)
