August Newsletter!

Can you believe summer is almost half over? Where did it go? It has been another busy summer here at Quinte Canine while we try to fit in as many classes and client as possible. But there are only so many hours in a week. As we continue to grow and expand we are working to get all the kinks out of our processes and behind-the-scenes work each day. Please be patient with us if we take a day or two to get back to you (especially the first few days of the month after the newsletter comes out - we can get a couple hundred emails). You are never a bother to us and we are committed to getting to everyone as quickly as possible.  We very much enjoy reach each and every one of you so dont ever feel like you cannot reach out anytime.

As summer rolls on and more and more of world opens up, we want to remind you that we are available for retail items at select days and times. Just shoot us a quick email or Facebook message so we can let you know when to stop by (our front door is locked when we are with a client or class). We have a new item that has a very select stock so that we can see if we like them! And we don't really like them, we LOVE them! We are now carrying the Bully Grip. This is an amazing bully stick holder that doubles as a fun toy. It helps to prevent our dogs from swallowing the end of a bully stick! WE only have a select number in stock at this time but we will likely order more soon, so let us know if you would like one of them!

As always, stay safe and keep those tails wagging!

Upcoming Classes!

Since you are one of our lucky newsletter subscribers I am offering you the first opportunity to register for upcoming classes with us! Because classes are limited they can and do fill very quickly. To be fair to all, we cannot hold spaces without completing the registration process. All classes are designed for dog and people friendly dogs who are up-to-date on core and rabies vaccinations.

If you have a dog with special needs please contact us to discuss how we can work with you.

Our physical location is 987 Old Highway 2, Belleville, ON.
(Half way between Belleville and Trenton along Highway 2, directly across from Connon Nurseries)

We want to do everything possible to ensure that we keep our community safe. Therefore, we have created and implemented strict health and safety protocols for classes including social distancing guidelines, regular disinfection, mandatory masks and more. With uncertainty in the future we want to keep you and your family healthy. Should the government of Ontario increase restrictions once again and force us to close, our in person group classes switching to a virtual classroom. We use a virtual classroom to 'meet' in a safe way. The class is run live and you are able to see, communicate and see demonstrations in real time. Yvonne is able to watch you and your dog working together to assist, provide feedback and help you learn! You still receive all the class handouts and we are here to support you even outside of class! Classes are fun, interactive and enjoyable; and the best part, your dog can be highly successful with dedicated attention on you. This has been a great alternative during past shut downs and we have received many communications from students saying how they enjoyed the class so much.

Play Dates!

We have play dates available for young puppies up to adult dogs who are very well socialized and enjoy the company and play of other dogs. All play dates are being held at at our location located at 987 Old Highway 2 Belleville (half way between Belleville and Trenton on Highway 2, right across from Connon Nurseries).

Play mates are matched up based on a number of factors to help build your dog/puppies confidence and skills. Play dates are 30 minutes each and are just $15 taxes included, due at the play date. All dogs and puppies joining must be up to date on vaccinations in order to join the fun.

If you are new to play dates (have not yet attended one) and would like to join one (or more) of the play dates listed below, please email us at quintecanine@hotmail.com, so we can match your dog accordingly.

Please note that if you sign up for a play date and are not able to attend you must provide at least 48 hours notice so we can fill your space, otherwise our standard play date fee still applies. Please be sure to mark your calendar as no reminder emails are sent.

Masks are required at this time and we request that a maximum of 1 person per dog attend. Handlers remain with their dog/puppy throughout the play session to learn more about dog communication.

Please email us all of the dates/times that you are interested in and available for and we will be sure to match you up as best possible with other dogs/puppies that suit your dogs temperament. In some cases, larger dogs may join small groups and adult dogs may join puppy/small groups - this is based on the temperament of the dog(s).  :)

Charger Update!

We are just about to begin week 12 of fostering Charger and things are starting to look up! He is now 5 weeks post op and has now banished the cone!  He is really enjoying the reduced frustration that comes with not having a super big cone in his life. Charge has also begun hydrotherapy to go along with his laser treatments. These treatments with the team at Loyalist Veterinary Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Services are designed to assist in his ongoing healing and help him to rebuild strength. For his (likely) first time ever swimming, he was like a fish in water! He really took to it quickly and very much enjoys loading into the water treadmill a couple of times per week!

Although we are certainly not yet out of the woods with his long road to recovery, we can finally see the forest past all the trees! We have to smile to think that 12 weeks ago we took a foster that we thought would be 8-12 weeks long. But that is the way it goes in this very rewarding and loving volunteer position, you never know what can happen! We know Charger will be with us for at least another couple of months while he continues recovery. And once he is finished with hydrotherapy he should be ready for yet another surgery where he will be neutered, have a hernia fixed and teeth repaired.

Charger is also able to now do some of the training he previously was unable to complete (due to physical restriction and limitations). Loose leash walking has been a very big learning curve for him but he is really coming along nicely. Like a baby puppy, he is very distracted by the world around him, but with patience we will get there. We believe the whole world may be a new experience for him so we are taking it slowly and ensuring that new experiences and overall his life is as stress free as possible.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook to see more pictures and get even more updates on Charge's great adventures!
