January Newsletter!
Happy New Year! We hope your holiday season was filled with fur and love and everyone remained safe and warm! We hope that 2023 brings you all the best. It is also a great time to look back at the past year here at Quinte Canine and bring you some interesting facts:
- The most popular new client dog name was Luna! Followed by Murphy and Bella in 2nd place and Maggie and Beau tied for 3rd!
- The most popular dog breed easily this year was the Golden Retriever! Followed in 2nd place by the Labrador and the German Shepherd Dog in 3rd (excluding mixed breeds)
- We were able to donate well over $2000 to the Humane Society HPE this year
- We opened an additional location in Marmora to better serve our clients to the north
- We held our first ever Canadian Association of Rally Obedience (CARO) trials
- Trainer Laurie Glencross also became a Certified Trick Dog Instructor
- Trainer and Owner Yvonne Ferguson finalized everything needed and is now a fully qualified all-levels judge for the Sporting Detection Dog Assoc (SDDA)
- We finished our foster time with Charger as he found a wonderful new home
- We said a happy goodbye to Haven, service dog, raised by trainer Laurie for her first 8 months
- We added working line German Shepherd - Quinte Canine's Ray A Sunshine (Raya)
- We loved every moment with you and our canine pals and hope to continue serving you in 2023

Upcoming Classes!
Because classes are limited they can and do fill very quickly. To be fair to all, we cannot hold spaces without completing the registration process. All classes are designed for dog and people friendly dogs who are up-to-date on core (DHP) and rabies vaccinations.
If you have a dog with special needs please contact us to discuss how we can work with you.
Puppy Class
For puppies 8-16 weeks of age. Don't delay! Important information: click here Class is $150+HST ($169.50 including taxes)

Teen Basics
This class is for Quinte Canine Puppy class graduates who are under 6 months of age. Class is $150+HST ($169.50 including taxes)

Tuesday February 28 at 7:00pm (Feb 28, Mar 7, 14, 21, 28 & Apr 4)
Basic Obedience
For dogs over 16 weeks of age to learn and refresh skills. This class is designed for dog and people friendly dogs only. Dogs who bark, lunge, growl, etc are not appropriate for this class. Great for dogs who have not attended a class before or for anyone looking for a refresher! $175+HST ($197.75 including taxes).

Intermediate Obedience
For dogs over 6 months who have attended wither our Basic Obedience Class or Teen Basics class. If you have mastered the basics in distracted environments its time to bring the skills to the next level. $175+HST ($197.75 including taxes).

Scent Detection
For any dog with a nose! The dogs in this class learn to search and find target scents in hidden locations. Students build confidence to work up to competing with their dog in the Sport Detection Dogs Association trials or Canadian Kennel Club trials. This is a great class for dogs of all ages, breeds, special needs and personalities and helps to provide great mental stimulation! Class is $150+HST ($169.50 including taxes)
Basic Scent Detection Level 2 (prerequisite is level 1) - Monday February 6 at 1:00pm (Feb 6, 13, 27, Mar 6, 13 & 20 - no class Feb 20) - just 2 spaces left in this class
Basic Scent Detection Level 3 (prerequisite is level 2) - Wednesday March 15 at 4:00pm (Mar 15, 22, 29, Apr 5, 12& 19) - this class is offsite at various locations within a 15 minute drive of our facility
Basic Scent Detection Level 3 (prerequisite is level 2) - Wednesday March 15 at 5:15pm (Mar 15, 22, 29, Apr 5, 12& 19) - this class is offsite at various locations within a 15 minute drive of our facility
Novice Trick Dog
Novice Trick Dog classes are designed for ANY dog! Absolutely any age, breed(s) and abilities can learn some fun new tricks! Learn over 25 tricks in this class. All dogs that complete the Novice Trick Dog Class are eligible to receive their Novice Trick Dog Title (NTD). Class is $165+HST ($186.45 including taxes)

Intermediate Trick Dog
Intermediate Trick Dog classes are designed for dogs who have completed the Novice Trick Dog Classes or earned their Novice Trick Dog Title (NTD)! All dogs are eligible to receive their Intermediate Trick Dog Title (ITD). Classes are 6 weeks are $165+HST ($186.45 including taxes)

Once payment is made and the registration form has been received, we will process your class enrolment and send you an email with all of the details and class handouts. Please note that those who submit both payment and form (payment only needed for existing students) will receive first opportunity to register.
Although the registration process above is always to fastest to secure a space in class, walk-in enrollments are accepted Mondays from 4-4:45pm, Wednesdays 4-4:45pm. Please remember to bring your dogs vaccinations.
Classes are limited in size to provide dogs and handlers with maximum learning opportunities. Because they are limited they often fill quickly. In the very rare case a class does not fill with the minimum number of participants (50%) we may choose to postpone, reschedule or cancel classes. Should this occur, we will provide the option to participants to apply their class registration fee toward the postponed or rescheduled class, an alternative class or provide a full refund.

Play Dates!
We have play dates available for puppies and young dogs who are very well socialized and enjoy the company and play of others. Play mates are matched up based on a number of factors to help build your dog/puppies confidence and skills. Play dates are 30 minutes each and are just $15 taxes included, due at the play date. All dogs and puppies joining must be up to date on vaccinations in order to join the fun. If you are new to play dates (have not yet attended one) and would like to join, please email us at quintecanine@hotmail.com, so we can match your dog accordingly.
Please note that if you sign up for a play date and are not able to attend you must provide at least 48 hours notice so we can fill your space, otherwise our standard play date fee still applies. Please be sure to mark your calendar as no reminder emails are sent. Handlers remain with their dog/puppy throughout the play session to learn more about dog communication. Please email us all of the dates/times that you are interested in and available for and we will be sure to match you up as best possible with other dogs/puppies that suit your dogs temperament. In some cases, larger dogs may join small groups and adult dogs may join puppy/small groups - this is based on the temperament of the dog(s).

Quinte Canine is currently planning a CARO trail (Rally O) for the weekend of March 11 and 12 and volunteers will be needed. Super Sniffer Brags!

Students this month participated in our new annual tradition - The 100 Box Challenge. Each team had 5 minutes to find as many hides as possible to gain points. Finishing before 5 minutes also gained points, but they had to be careful of distractions as those lost points. Students entered in the various levels of difficulty ranging from Advanced - 10 rows of 10 boxes) to Elite - 100 boxes through our whole facility. A lot of fun (and many laughs) was had and here are the results. Congratulations to everyone on having fun!

We now have a location to the North!
Quinte Canine North has begun accepting private one to one training clients (and hopefully some small groups soon) on Monday evenings with Laurie! This heated 25x50 training space on Lajoie Rd in Marmora (10 min west of Madoc), will be open to pre-booked clients only.
