Letter from the Editor
Dear friends, Very soon we will be blessed with an additional hour of sun each evening. That means more training time, warmer days and a whole lot of mud is on the way! It also means that your dog may be waking you up a little extra early for a few days or even weeks as their systems adjust to the new 'pee-o-clock'. March also marks the beginning of spring, or as we call it, mud-season. Spring is a great time to shake off the winter blues, get out with your dog and enjoy some extra time together! It is also a great time to spend some time with other dog-lovers. If you are looking to meet other fun, encouraging and engaged dog lovers, come out to one of our upcoming events to volunteer. Our students are friendly, welcoming and our community counts on volunteers to help make events fun!
Your friend,

Did you hear the news?
Quinte Canine will be hosting a Canine Good Neighbour Evaluation (CGN) again this year at Barks by the Bay Canine Festival!!!
Open to ALL Dogs and their people too! All dog/handler teams that pass the evaluation will receive a certificate from the Canadian Kennel Club. Pre-registration is requested as spots can fill quickly. ALL dogs are welcome, regardless of breed or parentage. Puppies must be 6 months old. Pre-Registration Cost: $30 per dog ($35 day of registrations pending space available)
The Canine Good Neighbour Program is a 12-step test, that when completed successfully, will ensure that one of our most favoured companions, the dog, is accepted as a valued member of our communities right across the country. Canine Good Neighbours can be counted on to present good manners at home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs.
The test is non-competitive and allows dog and handler to demonstrate confidence and control in 12 steps. It assesses the handler and dog's relationship, together with the handler's ability to control the dog. Dogs are evaluated on their ability to perform basic exercises as well as their ability to demonstrate good manners in everyday situations.

Tracking!
Does your dog like to follow your foot prints in the snow, or does he/she seem to be sniffing invisible footprints when out on a walk? Likely your dog is tracking something you can't even see!
Tracking is a sport where the dog is trained to locate a person and items of that persons using their extremely keen sense of smell. When watching a police canine team on television or a missing persons case, the dogs used are using their tracking training to find a person or important evidence in a case. Dogs have a highly sensitive olfactory system, far superior to humans, and are able to discriminate between different human’s scents.
Interested in tracking? We want to let you know that we are in the process of finding a perfect location to hold a beginners tracking workshop this spring so stay tuned for an upcoming newsletter with more information on the workshop and how to join us!

Quinte Canine Trivia Team rocks the night!
The brains were working hard this year at the Quinte Humane Society's 2nd Annual Trivia and Treats!
This years annual Treats & Trivia in support of Quinte Humane Society, sponsored by Marlene Letourneau of EXIT Realty Group was huge success! Turnout was doubled this year with 20 teams present to show off their smarts. For just $20 per person, entrants had the chance to shine, enjoy some laughs and fill the night with fun such as cash bar, cake and cupcake auction and pizza! The Quinte Canine team came in a respectable 10th place but I think their funny bones hurt more than any other team present.
At the intermission the treats arrived with a Cake and Cupcake auction that showed some of the crowds competitive side (which we dont mind). 13 drool-causing treats where up for grabs with some jumping at the chance to win and share with their teammates. Donations for this exciting part of the evening where made by our friends: Glazed & Confused, Ooh Lala, Raindrops Cupcakes, The Crust & Crumb Bakery, Peggy Kanaya, The Frost Family, Jennifer Nicholls and Katrina Farnworth.
The Quizzards of Paws where the top team this year, taking home the trophy with a win by double tie breaker. Congratulations to the new champions!
The biggest champions of the night were the shelter guests! The dogs, cats, and many other pets waiting for their FURever homes saw over $6000 raised! A big thank you to the community for your support and we hope you all can join us again next year!
