April Newsletter!
With spring officially now sprung, we are seeing many changes. Aside from the buds beginning, we are also seeing many of the COVID restrictions changing. What does this mean for classes and clients? Although we are working hard to safe-guard our most vulnerable in our community, we are also slowly and carefully easing into the life with COVID (as the epidemiologist put it). Our masking policy has been modified and will be send out to all new classes approximately one week before class begins; so please watch for it and read it thoroughly.
Spring is also MUD SEASON! And Charger is really taking advantage of of fun wet stuff. Yes, he is still with us as he has not received any appropriate applications. I am just in shock that he hasn't seen a stampede of applications. But we hope that it just means his best home has yet to find him.
Stay Safe, Your friend,

Upcoming Classes!
Since you are one of our lucky newsletter subscribers I am offering you the first opportunity to register for upcoming classes with us! Because classes are limited they can and do fill very quickly. To be fair to all, we cannot hold spaces without completing the registration process. All classes are designed for dog and people friendly dogs who are up-to-date on core and rabies vaccinations.
If you have a dog with special needs please contact us to discuss how we can work with you.
Our physical location is 987 Old Highway 2, Belleville, ON.
(Half way between Belleville and Trenton along Highway 2, directly across from Connon Nurseries)
We want to do everything possible to ensure that we keep our community safe. Should the government of Ontario increase restrictions once again and force us to close, our in person group classes switching to a virtual classroom. We use a virtual classroom to 'meet' in a safe way. The class is run live and you are able to see, communicate and see demonstrations in real time. You still receive all the class handouts and we are here to support you even outside of class! It is also important to understand that if vaccine passports are required by the government in the future for dog training classes, all students will need to show valid proof of vaccination. Those unable to provide proof of vaccination will need to be transferred to virtual classroom.

Play Dates!
We have play dates available for puppies and young dogs who are very well socialized and enjoy the company and play of others. Play mates are matched up based on a number of factors to help build your dog/puppies confidence and skills. Play dates are 30 minutes each and are just $15 taxes included, due at the play date. All dogs and puppies joining must be up to date on vaccinations in order to join the fun. If you are new to play dates (have not yet attended one) and would like to join, please email us at quintecanine@hotmail.com, so we can match your dog accordingly.
Please note that if you sign up for a play date and are not able to attend you must provide at least 48 hours notice so we can fill your space, otherwise our standard play date fee still applies. Please be sure to mark your calendar as no reminder emails are sent. Handlers remain with their dog/puppy throughout the play session to learn more about dog communication. Please email us all of the dates/times that you are interested in and available for and we will be sure to match you up as best possible with other dogs/puppies that suit your dogs temperament. In some cases, larger dogs may join small groups and adult dogs may join puppy/small groups - this is based on the temperament of the dog(s).

Charger Update
This month Charger has his first off leash supervised play time with his friend Odin! It was certainly a joyous day! Charger and Odin have been friends for a few months and go for walks together (on leash) at least once per week. They showed such great affiliation signals toward each other and enjoyed each others company that we felt it was the right time. Both dogs played and frolicked together, matching each others play and taking many breaks to check in with their humans before getting back to fair play! It was such a special play that we enjoyed watching almost as much as Charger did. Thank you so much Odin and his human, Fran for a wonderful play date.
In March we thought there was the perfect home for Charger with a wonderful family applying to adopt him. But sadly it was not meant to be as they work full time. Initially Charger will need a home with someone who works from home or is retired to continue working through his separation programming. We really hope the family that applied for him applies for another as I know they will make a great home.
We just know the perfect home is out there waiting for him and he is waiting for it! Here is a copy of his online biography - click here. All adoption applications are being handled by Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward. Please only follow their adoption process, do not call. Please click here for the adoption application: https://quintehumanesociety.com/dogs-2.php

The Quinte Canine Super Sniffer need your help!
We are starting to safely plan for our detection dogs to begin their practices again and we are in need of new and unique locations for the dogs to work!
This could be an old unused building, business or cottage!
Places we have practices before: pet stores, vet offices, industrial buildings, outbuildings, homes, mechanical shops, and so much more!
If you could provide some of our amazing super sniffers a location to practice for a day you would get a front row seat to the coolest dog sport around! Please reach out at quintecanine@hotmail.com so we can chat.
(Social distancing, masks and other COVID protocols are followed).

CONGRATULATIONS Quinte Canine Trainer Laurie on becoming a Certified Trick Dog Instructor (CTDI) with Do More With Your Dog!
|

Welcome ADC Haven!
The newest member of Trainer Laurie’s household, joining permanent residents Ben and Trilly, is foster puppy Haven – formally known as Benacres’s ADC Protect Your Peace. Haven is owned by Ability Dogs Canada and was donated by the family of Hannah Warren specifically for seizure-related service dog interventions. ADC specializes in training service dogs for autism support, seizure alert response, metal health or PTSD, and mobility support assistance.
Here is a link to a television interview with Founder Samantha Cooper describing her work with these dogs: https://youtu.be/yT7aXvXn1SM
Haven will be staying with Laurie for about a year. Her first steps in training have included Puppy Class and her upcoming Teen Class where she will learn to be a Well-Trained Dog (Just like yours!!!). Then we will focus on the special requirements she will need as a service dog. When she’s ready, she will head off to Service Dog School in Ottawa to continue her studies and be placed with a deserving individual or family who will greatly benefit from her training.
Laurie has had foster pups before when she volunteered at the humane society where she was living before returning to Ontario. Its always a sad day when the pups ‘leave home’ but we know Haven will have a bright future helping someone in need. And, that’s what its all about, right!
In the meantime, you may see puppy Haven hanging around at Quinte Canine, playing with her puppy playdate pals, or snoozing in her crate.
