Letter from the Editor
Dear friends,
I hope you are all ready for a few weeks of crossing out 2019 and writing 2020, I know I sure have done it a few times already! With a new year brings new opportunities to grow and develop. I dont particularly enjoy 'resolutions' since they are often forgotten and place too much pressure. Instead, I choose to integrate small life changes that are minor and easy to implement. This way as the new change occurs it can feel easy and habit-forming. Take the idea of politely sitting at the door when guests arrive, for many this would be wonderful, but trying to integrate this can be difficult if you do not get many visitors very often. Instead, starting with a habit of when a human places their hand on a door handle, sit and stay is expected and rewarded. There are at least ten times per day you can use this to reinforce your dog (going in and out for potty for example), it takes only a little time and gives a foundation for which to build. So instead of thinking 'major changes in 2020' begin thinking of how you can start small to grow those steps into major changes. This will take a little more pressure off of you and we all know this season has enough of that.

Upcoming Classes!
Since you are one of our lucky newsletter subscribers I am offering you the first opportunity to register for upcoming classes with us! Because classes are limited they can and do fill very quickly. To be fair to all, we cannot hold spaces without completing the registration process. All classes are designed for dog and people friendly dogs who are up-to-date on core and rabies vaccinations.

Puppy Class
For puppies under 5 months of age who have received at least their first set of vaccinations. $100+HST

Basic Obedience
For dogs over 5 month of age who are up-to-date on vaccinations and are dog and people friendly. $120+HST.

Intermediate Trick Dog
Intermediate Trick Dog classes are designed for dogs who have completed the Novice Trick Dog Classes or earned their Novice Trick Dog Title (NTD)! All dogs are eligible to receive their Intermediate Trick Dog Title (ITD). Classes are 6 weeks and are $145 +HST (this includes the Trick Title fee).

Basic Scent Detection - Level 1
For any dog with a nose! The dogs in this class learn to search and find target scents in hidden locations. Students build confidence to work up to competing with their dog in the Sport Detection Dogs Association trials or Canadian Kennel Club trials. This is a great class for dogs of all ages, breeds, special needs and personalities and helps to provide great mental stimulation! $120+HST

Intermediate Scent Detection
For dogs who have completed Basic Scent Detection Level 1 and 2. $120+HST.

Micro Dogs Play-dates!

Workshop - Tug Power!
A one-hour workshop for you and your dog! Does your dog like to tug? Does he/she know how to tug? Do you know how to tug? Tug is a fun, interactive and structured game that you can play with your dog. If you both learn the rules of tug together you can use tug as a reward, for exercise or just because you have both learned to love it! Come learn fun, encouraging and positive ways to tug with your dog! Just $20. This workshop is designed for dog and people friendly dogs of all ages and abilities.

Once payment is made and the registration form has been received, we will process your class enrollment and send you an email with all of the details and class handouts.
Previous students: if you have completed a registration form in the past you do not need to complete one again unless your information has changed or this is a new dog. Please just email us to register.
Classes are limited in size to provide dogs and handlers with maximum learning opportunities. Because they are limited they often fill quickly. In the very rare case a class does not fill with the minimum number of participants (50%) we may choose to postpone, reschedule or cancel classes. Should this occur, we will provide the option to participants to apply their class registration fee toward the postponed or rescheduled class, an alternative class or provide a full refund.

FYI: Holiday Closure
CLOSED FOR HOLIDAYS! Quinte Canine will be closed for our annual holidays with no access to email, telephones and Facebook messages from Friday February 7th to Monday February 17th 2020. We will resume regular service on Tuesday February 18th.
We will respond to emails and messages once we return. For class registration please send an email to quintecanine@hotmail.com and registration instructions will be forwarded to you.

SEEKING: New detection practice locations!
Quinte Canine Scent Detection Students (aka the Super Sniffers) are looking for new and different locations to practice the amazing sport of scent detection! Once students complete classes they are able to join the Super Sniffers (which is a practicing club) and we schedule 3-4 practices per month.
If you have a location (this could be a business, building, home, cottage, etc.) that you would allow our amazing dogs to practice in please let us know by email quintecanine@hotmail.com. It is important for the dogs to get into new locations as often as possible to keep their skills sharp, learn new skills and build confidence. We try to only reuse the same location once every 6 months.
Practices are normally held on Wednesday (daytime) and Sunday (daytime) but other days can be worked out. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the sport and get a firsthand look at how it all works!

The 4th Annual Quinte Canine Holiday Pot Luck Party
This years party was held on Thursday December 12th and was the biggest we have seen yet! Not only did we have so much amazing food, hilarious games and great attendees; but also raised $600 for Quinte Humane Society!
We even hosted a very special guest this year. Santa Claus himself made a trip to the hall with Mrs. Claus and some special gifts for our younger friends. The guests of honor made the rounds, took selfies, and even had enough time to read a great holiday story to the kids! Santa was sure to bring out the Nice List to add a few extra names when he saw all of the amazing donations under our Christmas tree for the shelter. Thank you all so much!
Thank you so very much everyone for your support over the past year and especially for this event as it really reinforces my love of what I do and the community I serve! You have made this holiday season so much brighter for us and for pets in our community.
