April Newsletter!
April showers are supposed to bring May flowers. Lets just hope those showers are overnight so we can get out an enjoy the daytime with our dogs! April also brings along Easter celebrations with all the goodies we love. Don't forget that our dogs also have a sweat tooth, just like us. Keeping all goodies up and far out of our dogs reach is critical to avoid ingesting candy and chocolate which can be, in some cases, a medical emergency for our dogs.
As we move into the nicer weather we are also beginning to relax our new habits. We are all very sick of social distancing, isolation and mask wearing. But staying diligent and safe must continue and each one of us plays an important role in keep each other safe. The government of Ontario is schedule to make announcements today (likely lockdown or a variation of it) which may or may not impact services. As it appears in the current (as of March 29) government documents, dog training services can continue under both grey and lockdown with modifications. It appears the modification require specific parameters around number of people in the building. At Quinte Canine we take health very seriously so we have always had policies in place that are stricter then required by both the government of Ontario and our local Health Unit. Please watch our Facebook page for announcements and up dated information about any changes to services. If we are required to close our doors, classes such as Puppy, Teen, Trick and Basic convert to virtual. So stay the course, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel one day.

Upcoming Classes!
Since you are one of our lucky newsletter subscribers I am offering you the first opportunity to register for upcoming classes with us! Because classes are limited they can and do fill very quickly. To be fair to all, we cannot hold spaces without completing the registration process. All classes are designed for dog and people friendly dogs who are up-to-date on core and rabies vaccinations.

(Half way between Belleville and Trenton along Highway 2, directly across from Connon Nurseries)
We want to do everything possible to ensure that we keep our community safe. Therefore, we have created and implemented strict health and safety protocols for classes including social distancing guidelines, regular disinfection, mandatory masks and more. With uncertainty in the future we want to keep you and your family healthy. Should the government of Ontario increase restrictions once again and force us to close, our in person group classes switching to a virtual classroom. We use a virtual classroom to 'meet' in a safe way. The class is run live and you are able to see, communicate and see demonstrations in real time. Yvonne is able to watch you and your dog working together to assist, provide feedback and help you learn! You still receive all the class handouts and we are here to support you even outside of class! Classes are fun, interactive and enjoyable; and the best part, your dog can be highly successful with dedicated attention on you. This has been a great alternative during past shut downs and we have received many communications from students saying how they enjoyed the class so much.

Teen Basics
This class is for Puppy class graduates who are between 4 months and 7 months of age and have graduated from Quinte Canine Puppy class. Class is $120+HST ($135.60 with taxes).

Basic Obedience
For dogs over 5 month of age to learn and refresh skills. This class is designed for dog and people friendly dogs only. Dogs who bark, lunge, growl, etc are not appropriate for this class. Great for dogs who have not attended a class before or puppy class graduates! $130+HST ($146.90 including taxes).

Novice Trick Dog
Novice Trick Dog classes are designed for ANY dog! Absolutely any age, breed(s) and abilities can learn some fun new tricks! Learn over 25 tricks in this class. All dogs that complete the Novice Trick Dog Class are eligible to receive their Novice Trick Dog Title (NTD). $145+HST.

Basic Scent Detection - Level 1
For any dog with a nose! The dogs in this class learn to search and find target scents in hidden locations. Students build confidence to work up to competing with their dog in the Sport Detection Dogs Association trials or Canadian Kennel Club trials. This is a great class for dogs of all ages, breeds, special needs and personalities and helps to provide great mental stimulation! $130+HST.

Rally-O

Once payment is made and the registration form has been received, we will process your class enrolment and send you an email with all of the details and class handouts. Please note that those who submit both payment and form (payment only needed for existing students) will receive first opportunity to register.
Classes are limited in size to provide dogs and handlers with maximum learning opportunities. Because they are limited they often fill quickly. In the very rare case a class does not fill with the minimum number of participants (50%) we may choose to postpone, reschedule or cancel classes. Should this occur, we will provide the option to participants to apply their class registration fee toward the postponed or rescheduled class, an alternative class or provide a full refund.

CALLING ALL TRICK DOGS!
We are excited to announce that we have opened a new Facebook group for all past and current trick dog class participants (group or private one to one students can join)! Learn more about trick criteria and some exciting new titles in the trick world that you can earn!
To join the fun, all you have to do is follow the link below, submit a request to join, answer a few simple questions (so we know its you) and that's it!
A fun new 'trick challenge' is being posted on April 1st, and no, its not for fools! :)

Play Dates!
We have play dates available for young puppies up to adult dogs who are very well socialized and enjoy the company and play of other dogs. All play dates are being held at at our location located at 987 Old Highway 2 Belleville (half way between Belleville and Trenton on Highway 2, right across from Connon Nurseries).
Play mates are matched up based on a number of factors to help build your dog/puppies confidence and skills. Play dates are 30 minutes each and are just $15 taxes included, due at the play date. All dogs and puppies joining must be up to date on vaccinations in order to join the fun.
If you are new to play dates (have not yet attended one) and would like to join one (or more) of the play dates listed below, please email us at quintecanine@hotmail.com, so we can match your dog accordingly.
Please note that if you sign up for a play date and are not able to attend you must provide at least 48 hours notice so we can fill your space, otherwise our standard play date fee still applies. Please be sure to mark your calendar as no reminder emails are sent.
Masks are required at this time and we request that a maximum of 1 person per dog attend. Handlers remain with their dog/puppy throughout the play session to learn more about dog communication.
Please email us all of the dates/times that you are interested in and available for and we will be sure to match you up as best possible with other dogs/puppies that suit your dogs temperament. In some cases, larger dogs may join small groups and adult dogs may join puppy/small groups - this is based on the temperament of the dog(s). :)

With Heavy Hearts
Our hearts continue to have such difficulty healing lately. Over the past month we have very much missed so many friends. The Super Sniffers are all very much missing see these beautiful faces, but are happy to say that their memories will live on forever. Chaz, Thunder and Roxy have left us to go to the rainbow bridge but their memories will live on forever in our hearts.
Be free now my friends. Allow Wrangler to meet up with you at the rainbow bridge and show you around. He will keep you all safe until we meet again.

Chaz - loved by Laurie Glencross, he was not only a great sniffy boy but a wonderful friend and coach to his housemates, Ben and Trilly. His accomplished career and go go go attitude are still with us.

Roxy - loved by Kelsi O'Rourke and everyone who met her. Roxy was 'the old lady' who not only loved life but didn't hesitate to help other dogs when needed like her housemates Sadie and Stella. Her zest for life and can do attitude inspired so many over the years and will continue to be inspiring for all of us old dogs learning new tricks.
