Notes from the Editor

Fall is almost upon us, and we are still experiencing COVID restrictions, so there will not be any SOKO events scheduled this month. As you begin to think about holiday shopping, remember that you can contact our individual artists through their own websites, or at www.sokoartists.com. The artists are all working on new and beautiful pieces that we would love to share with you. Should circumstances permit, many of us will have work for display and sale at other venues as well, and you will be notified of them through this Newsletter.

Upcoming SOKO Events
STUDIO TOUR 2022. SOKO’s Annual Studio Tour and Sale will take place February 26-27, 2022. Preparations are in full swing already, and we are greatly looking forward to welcoming all of you back into our studios and homes. Until then, you can find us at www.sokoartists.com and on our individual websites.

Featured Artists
This month’s features artists are Peter Underwood and Catherine Wynne.

PETER UNDERWOOD
Art Is Transformational

Peter Underwood is an Artist, always has been, always will be. My passion in Art is in Making. I love and pursue creating sculptures in assemblage, collage and large installations. Reusing, remaking, transforming is my happy place. Find me at "It’s an Underwood” Gallery at Discovery Antiques ( the big red “barn”) in Kealakekua.

Email: peterantiquer@gmail.com, phone is 808-895-4365. Open by appointment only. While you’re there, you can search for hidden treasure in one of the best antique shops on the island.

CATHERINE WYNNE
The Many Dimensions Of Fabric And Thread

I am a fiber artist and quiltmaker. I am a retired attorney who has made a home on Hawai’i Island for over 30 years. I specialize in creating art quilts depicting scenes from the life and legends of my home in Hawai’i. I enjoy traditional Hawaiian quilting and patchwork quilting, as well as art quilting. I love to create custom-made quilts and wall hangings of all sizes. I also do custom longarm machine quilting, turning the customer’s quilt top into a completed quilt. My work can be seen at catherinewynnequilts.com.
With that, we’ve reached the end of the alphabet of continuing members. Next month, you’ll get to meet our two new members, and one returning after an absence. After October, we will be switching to a quarterly format for this Newsletter. Even though you will not be hearing from us every single month, most SOKO artists are always available for studio showings by appointment.  To contact them, go to the “ARTISTS” page on the SOKO website for contact information, or contact SOKO directly through the “CONTACT” page, and we will put you in touch with the artist(s) of your choice.
