At IABC, globally, mid-year has traditionally been the time to turn over a new leaf with a new Board taking charge under a new leadership team. In this newsletter, we introduce you to Daniella Bond, the new IEB Chair—though some of you may already have met her in our very first IABC India virtual meeting last year.
We also welcome James Howe, our new Chair at IABC APAC, and look forward to working with him and the new Board in furthering our agenda in India. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Kristy Christie, the immediate past Chair, for her ever-present and enthusiastic support and encouragement.

New Board, New Leaders
IABC announced the selection of six members to serve on the International Executive Board (IEB)—joining six additional members—for the 2021–2022 term beginning this July. IEB, the governing body of IABC that leads the organization’s strategy in setting the global standards of excellence for business communication, will be led by Danielle Bond, SCMP, as the new Chair.
Danielle is a marketing executive with expertise in the professional services sector, having worked with EY among other firms. Currently, she is the Group Director – Brand, Marketing & Communications, Asia Pacific, for Aurecon, and is a member of IABC’s Victoria Chapter. View Danielle’s LinkedIn profile and connect with her.
At the same time, at the regional level, a new Board at IABC APAC took charge last month under the leadership of James Howe as the new Chair of IABC APAC. Here’s some fantastic news about a few of our members who have truly made the IABC India Chapter proud.
Sunita Venugopal, SCMP, has been elected to the IABC APAC Board as the new Director of Certifications. A Senior Director of Corporate Affairs and CSR at Walmart Global Tech India, Sunita will liaise with members and non-members to promote certification programs as part of the Global Communications Certification Council mandate.
Sukanya Chakraborty, SCMP, who is the Global Head of Corporate Communications at VFS Global, has been selected to be part of IABC’s Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Taskforce, which is a time-limited action team to develop recommendations on integrating D&I into the fabric of IABC’s culture.
Bhanu Prakash from Amazon has joined the 2022 IABC World Conference Program Advisory Committee, which is responsible for creating the best global communication conference experience for IABC. He will work with the Committee members in evaluating the speakers and will play a pivotal role in the success of the conference next year.
Subhamoy Das, IABC India Chapter President, was nominated in the annual IABC Chapter Leader of the Year Awards for 2021. It is a great acknowledgment to be recognized among the top eight influential leaders, globally, for his contributions toward the growth of the Chapter. He has been the soul of the IABC India Chapter, which has seen significant growth under his leadership.
The IABC AGM & Annual Report 2020-21
IABC conducts an Annual General Meeting (AGM) to conduct the association business and elect the members of the international executive board (IEB). The 2021 AGM was held virtually on June 21, with 200 attendees from around the world, where the IABC leadership shared an overview of the past year. During the meeting, IABC released the 2020-2021 Annual Report, which recaps the accomplishments of our members and volunteers while introducing Stronger Together IABC2025, our new strategic plan, as we welcomed the 2021-2022 International Executive Board. The Annual Report acknowledged Subhamoy Das, Sukanya Chakraborty, and Sushmita Bandopadhyay of IABC India as “Champions” for referring new members and for advocating IABC to the larger fraternity.
At a Glance: World Conference 2021
IABC's annual spectacle, the much-awaited World Conference 2021, concluded on June 30 amid great excitement and cheer. Spread across three days, communication professionals from around the globe gathered at the virtual IABC World Conference 2021. The conference tapped into topics ranging from diversity and inclusion and crisis management to communication strategy, internal and external communication, and much more. From a wide range of speakers to a variety of roundtable discussions, boardroom sessions, networking and exhibition areas, the attendees had choices galore—with something for everyone. Find out more.
Danielle Presents IABC’s Vision at the APAC 2021-22 AGM
At the IABC APAC AGM held last month, Danielle Bond, our new IABC Chair, explained how the new IABC 2025 strategy will enable IABC to grow further. She dwelled upon operating and growing in the upcoming years using a threefold approach: Be Stronger Together, Get Digitally Transformed, and be Data-driven. On growth, she laid out how delivering value, championing our profession by creating awareness on the significance of the profession, and advancing careers through gap identification and learning opportunities will be the way forward.
IABC India Achieves Highest Retention Rate
Let's take a moment to congratulate ourselves! We’re delighted that IABC India made the IABC Global Leaderboard for one of the best performances in the recent Member Month drive. Not only did we grow our membership by 29 percent, we also achieved 100 percent retention—thanks to our exemplary work during April 2021. In the Growth Leaderboard, we were placed second after Manitoba and ahead of the Golden Horseshoe, Charlotte, and the Philippines in the Small Chapters category. In the 100 percent Retention Leaderboard, we tied in our category with Austin, Golden Horseshoe, Hong Kong, Manitoba, Nashville, Orange County, Oregon, Columbia, and the Philippines. Thank you, friends, for helping us make our presence felt ever so strongly, globally!

Shubhra Banerjee Batra
Let’s welcome Shubhra Banerjee Batra, our newest member. She has recently joined Rio Tinto as the Principal Advisor, Change Management and Engagement. Shubhra is a seasoned Corporate Affairs and Communications professional with 18 years of wide-ranging experience and a proven background in leadership communications, employee engagement, corporate affairs, change management, crisis communications, and sustainability/ESG reporting. She started out as a journalist and has a varied experience of working in corporations across diverse sectors such as Mining, Retail, Manufacturing, and Digital Services.
