IN THE SPOTLIGHT

A triad of India members takes their SCMP exams in Bangalore

This year’s first IABC Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC) examinations were held in India on Saturday, February 27, 2021—for the first time in India, at Bangalore. Piyali Dasgupta, Sukanya Chakraborty, and Sunita Venugopal took the Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP®) certification exams under the proctorship of Aniisu Verghese in the Garden City.

Drum rolls: Chapter members who pass the CMP/SCMP will be featured by IABC APAC in an exclusive interview, and their profiles will be amplified through social media posts across the global communication professionals’ fraternity.

Watch out for the next exam dates: IABC India plans to hold its next set of GCCC exams in April–May 2021 across major metro cities, including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Anyone who wishes to appear for these global communication certification examinations can now do so by contacting the IABC India President and expressing their interest while indicating their preferred date and city, at least 45 days in advance.

MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Aruna Balkrishna Singh

Let’s welcome Aruna—our member of the month, who joined IABC India in January 2021. She is a PR practitioner, a digital marketer, a brand strategist, a content creator, and a storyteller. She has a keen interest in how to create, develop, and narrate effective stories based on an in-depth understanding of human complexities and behavior, and how brands can leverage this to create memorable stories of their own through content, engagement, and authority. In her own words, “I have been a writer for several years now and have experimented with content across PR, television, social mediums, and graphic novels. And each time, the power of a story well told, simply amazes me. I strive for that perfect story, be it as a media pitch to garner visibility in print media or a documentary on Netflix, as comics and graphic novels, or sketch notes and whiteboard videos—the medium doesn't matter, the matter always does!” Aruna is a prolific writer and has authored several books for children (check out her Amazon profile). CAREER ROADMAP
What held me back from pursuing the SCMP

by Kristy Christie, SCMP

It came down to fear, really. First, it was fear of the unknown. Followed by the fear of failure. Then, of course, the fear of embarrassment. Those were the three big reasons that held me back from the SCMP for months and month.

By the grace of God, I passed the exam. The moment I got my results was unexpectedly bittersweet—on one hand, I was glad (really glad) that I didn’t have to prepare for a re-sit. On the other hand, I wondered that, if I tried to reassure the next person like me (who is convinced that they may not pass), that it is a journey and it’s okay to fail, it may come across a little hollow.

What was unexpectedly great about this process? Read the full article.
