"Bet on the exceptional. We scour the Earth searching for the next visionaries, betting early on the power of their ideas to solve hard problems in science and society." - Schmidt Futures. Next to image of Caroline Spears.

We envision a future in which every elected office in the U.S — from school board to President — is held by a climate champion.

Three years ago, we made a bet on that future, and today, we are thrilled to announce that Schmidt Futures, an initiative launched by the former CEO of Google Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy, has recognized Climate Cabinet Education's data work as exceptional and is placing a bet on us.

The Climate Cabinet team has been chosen for a Schmidt Futures Catalyst Grant. Through this program, we are ready to expand our cutting edge data work to map climate policy and opportunity within every jurisdiction, big and small, across the U.S. Utilizing this information, we can identify the highest "ROI" climate opportunities at the state and local level and support local leaders to use the full powers of their office to for advancing climate progress.

In this newsletter, you'll find infographics on Climate Cabinet Education's database and more.

Clean energy on the rise in Virginia
Our Legislative Director Blair St. Ledger-Olson (2nd from left) joined fellow coalition members in Richmond last week for the Virginia Clean Energy Summit. Blair noted how impressive it was to see how much the conference had grown since its first gathering in 2019, with clean energy companies now flocking to Virginia - thanks in large part to the 2020 Virginia Clean Economy Act.

Climate scores for state legislators
Climate Scorecard cover photo
The Climate Cabinet Action Scorecard is the first national scorecard that rates state legislators based on their actual climate voting record. Earlier this month, we launched 2022 scores for four priority states: Arizona, Minnesota, North Carolina and Texas.

To bring Climate Scores to life, our legislative director identifies key climate bills and then data team analyzes every floor vote to determine how often a legislator votes for or against climate action.

This work wouldn't be possible without exceptional state-based partners. Thanks to the Sierra Club in Arizona and Texas, Environment Texas, and Conservation Voters in Minnesota and North Carolina!
