Parent Edge "Stay-at-Home Hacks"

My daughter is on a “school schedule” during the week, using IXL and supplementing with other online learning resources. She’s taken live classes from scientists, visited museums and done online experiments. We’ve been cooking, having dance parties, walking, hiking, and doing escape rooms (on-line and box version). Sunday afternoon is “spa time” with facials and nails.
~ 12-year old daughter

My sons have been making iMovies in the neighborhood with fake props and showing family members the finished product.  They have been taking bike rides and recounting the routes & adventures of their day.
~ 8 and 11 year-old sons

My daughter has been helping design our weekly dinner menus which she posts so no one has to ask “what’s for dinner.” She has been researching recipes & baking on her own. We even recorded one like she was hosting a baking tutorial!
~ 14 year-old daughter

As a family, we have been doing outdoor ‘boot camps’ & bike rides. We have also been learning new games (jenga & sequence) and trying to find ways to be outdoors in the evenings – cooking hot dogs and s’mores on the grill and projecting a movie outdoors to watch with popcorn.
~ elementary and middle school-aged kids

We have been staying busy cooking, doing puzzles, biking, walking, and playing ball.

More Creative Ideas for Family Time!
Create a family obstacle course. Have kids find objects around the house and garage and throw in some light weights, work-out bands or yoga balls. Put on some music or set a timer and cheer each other on!

For younger kids, set up “creativity stations” to include collages, playdough sculptures (make your own playdough!), mosaics, science experiments, create custom-playlists for a dance party/sing-along/freeze-dance contest, backyard camp-outs or indoor camp-ins, plus 70 more activity ideas HERE!

Try an on-line puzzle hunt/escape room experience or online scavenger hunt!
